What is teh KUNDABUFFER
Gurdjieff and Master Samael taught that the Kundabuffer was once a physical organ in very ancient times. Today it no longer exists physically, except as a small bony remnant at the coccyx, but its psychological consequences remain active in the human psyche. The terms Kundabuffer and Kundartiguador refer to the same thing, one in English and one in Spanish. The word “Kunda” points to something deep, coiled, or rooted at the base of the spine, while “buffer” means something that absorbs or softens impact.
Psychologically, the Kundabuffer acts as a hypnotic mechanism. It makes us believe in what is not true, or only partially true. It sustains fantasy, self-deception, and identification with the ego. Through it, consciousness falls asleep and loses direct contact with reality. To be hypnotized means to accept illusion as truth.
It is called a “buffer” because it cushions us from reality. Just as a physical buffer softens a collision, the Kundabuffer softens the inner shock that truth would create in us. Those shocks are what can awaken consciousness, so by buffering them, the Kundabuffer keeps us asleep. Its original purpose was to make ancient humanity fascinated with life on Earth, but now it only deepens psychological sleep and suffering.
Each ego has its own Kundabuffer. This is what gives every psychological defect its hypnotic grip. We often know something is wrong, yet still feel compelled to do it. That compulsion is the Kundabuffer acting through the ego. In dreams, egos are often seen with tails, which symbolically represent this hypnotic power.
Nature uses fantasy as its strongest weapon to keep us asleep. Fantasy is believing in what is unreal. When we believe in the unreal, consciousness is lulled into passivity and cannot awaken.
The Kundalini is the opposite of the Kundabuffer. The word itself means “the end of the Kundabuffer.” Awakening the Kundalini and dissolving the psychological “I” removes the hypnotic effects of the Kundabuffer from the psyche. This is done through conscious inner work, sexual transmutation, and sacrifice for humanity.
Many great teachers have come to help humanity free itself from this inner hypnosis. Master Samael taught that through the three factors—death of the ego, birth of the soul through transmutation, and service to others—we can liberate ourselves from the shadow and power of the Kundabuffer and awaken real consciousness.
