USDA inspections, food programs continue during shutdown
US Department of Agriculture inspections of meat and poultry will continue during the government shutdown, but the FDA may stop doing its routine unannounced inspections. Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue said safety-net nutrition programs, including the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, the Child Nutrition Programs and the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children, will continue to operate.
