Ever feel so overwhelmed you can't even decide what to eat? That's analysis paralysis, a common sign of emotional dysregulation. When we're stressed or frustrated, our ability to think, plan, and act can shut down.

Don't limit discussions to just happy, sad, or mad. Explore the full spectrum of emotions with your child—calm, surprised, confused, shocked, and even silly. Naming feelings, especially calmness, builds essential emotional intelligence.

Don't wait until your child is escalated to practice coping skills. Learning these skills when everyone is calm and making it part of a daily routine is key for success. It helps make it second nature and prevents negative associations.

When your child is calm, that's the prime time to practice calming and coping skills. As they escalate, acknowledge feelings and model those skills. But during a full crisis – yelling, hitting, biting – focus on safety and space. It's not the moment to lecture; they won't hear you. Deescalation requires patience; they might swing back to crisis.

See your child coloring and looking calm? Acknowledge it. Frustrated with a juice box? Name that emotion. Helping kids, especially autistic children, verbalize and understand their feelings can speed up their learning process significantly. Even sharing your own frustrations about cooking can be a powerful lesson.

Ever wonder WHY a certain behavior is happening? 🤔

Understanding the "why" is the first step to providing the right support. In ABA and autism support, we look at the 4 Functions of Behavior:

1️⃣ Tangible: Wanting a specific toy or activity. 🧸
2️⃣ Attention: Seeking a connection, a hug, or a conversation. 🫂
3️⃣ Escape: Needing a break from a task that feels too hard. 🏃‍♂️
4️⃣ Sensory (Automatic): Actions that feel good or help regulate the body—like a warm blanket or dimming the lights. 💡

When we understand the function, we can meet the need!

“If they had the skills to do it differently, they probably would.” 💡

When a child is kicking, yelling, or throwing themselves on the ground, they aren't trying to be "difficult"—they are using the most reliable tool they have to get their needs met.

Think about it: Engaging in a meltdown is high-effort. If they had an easier, faster way to say "I'm overwhelmed" or "I need help," they’d use it.

Behavior communicates what words can’t yet:
❌ "This task is too hard."
❌ "I feel unsafe in my body."
❌ "I'm completely overwhelmed."

Our job isn't just to stop the behavior; it’s to provide the skills that make that behavior unnecessary.

Transitions can be one of the most challenging parts of the day, but they don't have to be. Whether you're using pictures, text, or a mix of both, visual schedules are a game-changer for helping individuals anticipate "what’s next" and reduce daily anxiety.

One of the biggest frustrations is when a child can do a skill in one place but not at home 🏡

Forta’s model focuses on learning where real life happens so progress can translate into daily routines faster.

If you want strategies that match your home, not a clinic room, natural environment therapy can help.

ABA outcomes vary by child and this content is informational only, not medical advice.

"The traditional model was failing the families who matter most." 💔

For many families, an autism diagnosis is followed by a second blow: 18-month waitlists, 2-hour commutes, and "impossible" barriers to care.

Kimberly Sadovich, BCBA and Senior Clinical Director at Forta Health, explains why we’re changing the narrative. At Forta, we believe that geography shouldn't determine your child's progress.

Why Virtual ABA works:
✅ Real-world results: Research shows equivalent or superior outcomes to clinic-based therapy.
✅ Natural environment: Skills are learned where they are actually used—at home.
✅ Parent Empowerment: You become a true partner in your child’s journey, not just a waiting-room observer.
✅ Zero Waitlists: We’ve already served over 1,000 families who previously had zero options.

If you’ve been told ABA isn’t available or accessible for your child, it’s time for a different story. 📖✨
