Early support can make a big difference. This World Autism Awareness Day, learn the signs.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a developmental condition that can affect how a person speaks, learns, and acts. Many children with ASD show signs by age 2 or 3, which is why early checkups are so important.

You can even get a $50 gift card after you bring your child to their first developmental checkup. Learn more about ASD and when to get your child screened at https://www.sfhp.org/developmental-screening.

Many eye problems don’t cause pain and may not show early signs. A simple eye exam can help find changes early before they become serious.

Glaucoma is an eye disease that gets worse over time. Without treatment, it can lead to vision loss. But finding it early gives you the best chance to protect your vision.

If you are an SFHP Medi‑Cal member, you get vision care through Vision Service Plan (VSP). With VSP, an optometrist (eye specialist) can check for glaucoma during your exam.

Learn more about glaucoma and how to see an eye specialist: https://www.sfhp.org/save-your-vision

Routine eye exams keep your vision strong.

Our Story

We were established in 1994 by the San Francisco Board of Supervisors and are an award winning, managed care health plan whose mission is to improve health outcomes of the diverse San Francisco communities through successful partnerships.

We were created by the City and County of San Francisco with one purpose: to provide high quality medical care to the largest number of low-income San Francisco residents possible, while supporting San Francisco’s public and community-minded doctors, clinics, and hospitals.

We have seen many positive changes over our 22-year history, from achieving universal coverage of children, offering access through the City’s award-winning Healthy San Francisco Program for all uninsured in the City, successfully implementing the Affordable Care Act Medi-Cal expansion to childless adults, tripling our Medi-Cal membership in less than 10 years, a quintupling of our revenues, and being the highest ranked public Medi-Cal plan as determined by the Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) on quality measures for each of the last 10 years.
