National College Decision Day is rapidly approaching, and as a new class of college students prepares to head off to continue their education, we are incredibly inspired by all that colleges and college students are doing to help address the ongoing mental health crisis. General life transition stresses combined with the lingering fallout from the COVID-19 crisis has led to record numbers of young people reporting challenges with their mental health in one or more area.
Given this reality, the recent article by Fast Company exploring mental health on college campuses is inspiring; in particular we were energized to learn about the many ways students are taking matters into their own hands and stepping up to provide support for themselves and their peers. In fact, according to the author, Sarah Bregel, “the most common kinds of campus meetups for students who need support are student-run clubs.”
As our younger generations loosen themselves from the social pressure to appear fine at all times, knowing that students are both giving and receiving mental health support is a reassuring sign that we’re moving in a positive direction.
