Do you hate planks because…they’re hard?

Try these tips:
1. Hold your planks for reps of ONLY 10 seconds. Research shows that holds of only 10 seconds are optimal for most of us - especially those with lower back pain.
2. Keep your forearms parallel to each other, with your hands facing each other. Any other position puts your shoulders in an internally rotated position which is risky for your shoulders and takes focus away from your core.
3. Instead of increasing the length of your planks, move onto these variations of moving planks. Life is like a moving plank, so that’s how our exercises should look as well.

Ever have pain in the side of your lower back?

The muscle that was cranky was probably your quadratus lumborum, or “QL.” The QL is a quadrangular muscle designed to stabilize your pelvis when the leg is off the ground. Soft tissue work can often provide massive relief.

…In the event massage therapy doesn’t fix the problem, there’s likely an underlying hip stability issue that needs to be addressed with corrective exercise.
