Vernal Equinox, 春分 (Chun Fen): March 21st - April 4th

This is the midpoint between early and late spring. As such we are right in the middle of Liver season. It remains important to nourish the Liver and guard agains any excesses. Be mindful of extreme emotions. Find the time to exercise or meditate.

Sour foods, such as pickles or dishes with vinegar, are good to nourish Liver during this time. If you tend toward depression, mildly spicy foods can help. Include ingredients such as pepper, scallions, and ginger to your diet.

Rosebud Tea (Mei Gui Hua) has a beneficial effect on the Liver. This time of year is a good time to drink plenty of it. It's especially helpful with menstrual cramps.

Enjoy living with the seasons!

Awakening Insects: March 5th - March 20th

As spring sets in, begin to nourish yang more than yin.

The Liver is the organ associated with spring. It is easier for the Liver to be out of balance at this time. Ensure that you have methods for stress management. Use pai da practice (slapping qigong) to promote circulation.

Eat lightly. Heavy foods clog the Liver. Continue eating warm foods such as leeks, onions, ginger, chives, scallions, etc.
