Why Are These Boxes Speaking in Tagalog?

The ‘We Live Here’ project wraps utility boxes on Folsom and Howard Streets with Filipino-themed public art. Each box features pairs of letters from the ABAKADA alphabet, illustrated with Tagalog words and Baybayin references. This installation is part of a series of public artworks across the SOMA Pilipinas Cultural Heritage District, highlighting Filipino language, culture, and heritage in the neighborhood.

Routed West: Twentieth-Century African American Quilts in California traces the flow and flourishing of quilts in the context of the Second Great Migration through approximately one hundred quilts representing the work of eighty individuals, many of them women.
