Why Are These Boxes Speaking in Tagalog?

The ‘We Live Here’ project wraps utility boxes on Folsom and Howard Streets with Filipino-themed public art. Each box features pairs of letters from the ABAKADA alphabet, illustrated with Tagalog words and Baybayin references. This installation is part of a series of public artworks across the SOMA Pilipinas Cultural Heritage District, highlighting Filipino language, culture, and heritage in the neighborhood.

Routed West: Twentieth-Century African American Quilts in California traces the flow and flourishing of quilts in the context of the Second Great Migration through approximately one hundred quilts representing the work of eighty individuals, many of them women. It is the first group show drawn from a transformative bequest of African American quilts that the museum received in 2019.

Through the kindness, collaboration, and Kapwa with our friends at Global New Orleans () Carolyn () recently spent the day with a selected group of social media content creators from the Philippines.

Carolyn accompanied the group and its contingent to St. Bernard Parish & the Katrina Memorial at Shell Beach, then facilitated an Ancestral History ritual at the St. Malo Historical Marker with Dr. Randy Gonzales.

More Bayou Barkada joined the evening gathering, as ✨energies continue to deepen our local community bonds.
