PREVENTION: Exercise As Medicine

Exercise has numerous anti-cancer effects. So much so, that one could say exercise is medicine.

If you are someone that cites a lack of time as a reason to justify a non-existent exercise routine, there is now good news. A study recently published in the European Heart Journal has found that a daily brisk walk for just 7 minutes can reduce the risk of the #1 killer of heart disease. And because of the close association between cancer and cardiovascular disease, the same daily brisk walk will likely help with the #2 killer of cancer.

If you have cancer and are looking for a good New Yearโ€™s resolution, besides committing to a healthy diet, commit to exercise. They just might save your life.

Did you know that the enzyme that the body uses to process insulin after itโ€™s used, is the exact same enzyme that the brain uses to clear a potential toxin called amyloid beta thatโ€™s associated with Alzheimerโ€™s disease?

This discovery that insulin and amyloid beta share the same breakdown enzyme, called insulin-degrading enzyme, is a breakthrough in our understanding of the brain/body connection.

๐Ÿ‘‰What is more important to know is that this enzyme canโ€™t do both jobs at once๐Ÿ’ฅ

If the enzyme is busy breaking down insulin because your blood sugar is too high and your body is therefore cranking out the insulin to try to drive the blood glucose into cells, your insulin-degrading enzyme wonโ€™t be free to break down amyloid beta.

As a result of reduced clearance, sticky amyloid beta can accumulate excessively in toxic seeds, then deposits, and ultimately plaques in your brain, a hallmark of Alzheimerโ€™s disease.

When amyloid beta builds up beyond a certain point, it becomes toxic to nerve cells, destroys synapses (the connections between nerve cells), and promotes brain inflammation, which then promotes more toxic amyloid beta accumulation.

High blood sugar and amyloid beta accumulation become a vicious cycle you want to avoidโ€”unless you prefer to lose your marbles as you age!

Reversing insulin block may help prevent some cases of Alzheimerโ€™s disease, including early manifestations like forgetfulness and mood changes.

This is one of the reasons I strongly encourage everyone to test their blood sugar and get to know their blood glucose levels. Head to my profile and follow the link to download my free guide to blood sugar tracking.

It is not just about weight; itโ€™s about protecting your brain.

The peripheral nerves are composed of several layers of fascial tissue, which can become a source of pain if they fail in their ability to slide. Fascial osteopathy research has been aimed at understanding what happens to the fascia following treatment and, as a result of studies, it has been possible to highlight some of the benefits, including a reduction in local pain and inflammation.
