February 7 is National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, a moment to raise awareness and reaffirm our commitment to addressing the disproportionate impact of HIV on Black communities. We also celebrate the strength, resilience, and hope that continue to drive progress. 🖤

This past weekend, our community experienced the heartbreaking loss of a caring coworker, a compassionate and energetic social worker, and, to many, a dear friend. The fact that our colleague lost his life while at work at ZSFG Ward 86, while taking care of some of our most vulnerable clients, makes this loss even more devastating and painful. Our hearts go out to his family, friends, and community.

Vigils are reportedly being held throughout the week at ZSFG, and we are preparing space at the Services Center where staff, clients, and community members can write messages, offer prayers and flowers, and reflect on the life and incredible work of our beloved colleague.

Today is Giving Tuesday! Our clients need your support. ❤️

Today, you can make a difference in the lives of our most vulnerable neighbors here in San Francisco. Our clients come to AHP in need of help with nowhere else to turn. They are often in crisis and are cared for by a counselor, case manager, therapist, and/or a psychiatrist.

Our dedicated team at AHP assists them in finding safe housing, and substance use counseling. At times, our staff es**rt them to medical appointments and offer support groups, therapy, or a range of other mental and behavioral health services.

Donate today to help ensure that AHP can continue to provide lifesaving, life-changing programs and services for our most vulnerable clients in San Francisco.

We believe that together, through our combined efforts, we can strengthen our social safety net that includes more services and more care provided to clients in crisis, those with mental illness, HIV, and those who are homeless or coping with substance use disorders.

Your donation this means more help, more resources, and more care for those who need it most.

Today is when we reflect on our history and on the many contributions our vibrant AHP community has made over the last four decades in the fight against HIV and AIDS.

Life-saving services are being defunded, disrupting treatment and care response for those in SF who need it most.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO):
📣 In 2024, an estimated 40.8 million people were living with HIV globally
📣 Approximately 630,000 people died from HIV‑related causes in 2024
📣 An estimated 1.3 million people acquired HIV in 2024

We must work together to acknowledge, advocate, and address the inequities that continue to affect our clients and community here at home and around the world. ❤️
