Former USC quarterback Connor Shaw presented an Avive Connect AED at the South Carolina Senior Games Sports Classic through the HRTHUDL initiative! Six months ago, Shaw survived a sudden cardiac arrest, thanks in part to the use of an AED.

We commend Connor and HRTHUDL as this placement marks their 10th AED distributed, part of an incredible ongoing effort to equip community spaces across South Carolina with lifesaving technology. 👏

On a July afternoon, Vince Warren was mowing his lawn when his heart stopped and he had a sudden cardiac arrest. His wife found him in their driveway, called 911, and started CPR. At the same time, 911 alerted nearby Avive Connect AED® devices through Forsyth County's 4 Minute Community™ Program. CK Villarouel, a neighbor, and a CARE Team member, dropped everything and ran.

He arrived within minutes, delivering the shock that brought Vince back. Vince Warren is alive today because a community was ready. Because a wife didn't stop. Because a neighbor didn't hesitate. Because the right technology got to the right place in time.

City Council recognized the first Sudden Cardiac Arrest save by community volunteers on the Carrollton CARE Team since staff officially launched the Avive® 4 Minute Community® program in August 2024. Five team members arrived first on the scene and resuscitated a cardiac arrest patient in September 2025 before additional support arrived. Making this the first save documented in Texas and the most thoroughly recorded success in Avive’s 4 Minute Community® history.

The goal of the program is to have an Avive Connect AED® in the hands of a volunteer trained in CPR/AED to arrive at every sudden cardiac arrest in the City within four minutes of 911 dispatchers receiving the call. Carrollton’s CARE Team is comprised of more than 100 resident volunteers who serve their neighborhood; 100 more are needed to cover the entirety of Carrollton.

We applaud Virginia’s proposed legislation requiring AEDs at sporting facilities and events across the state! Ensuring these lifesaving devices are available at indoor and outdoor venues based on facility size and attendance is a huge step toward protecting athletes, families, and fans.

In cardiac emergencies, every second counts - and expanding AED access in high-traffic sports environments will help create safer communities for everyone.

Emergency responders said this would help especially in rural areas, where it can take up to 40 minutes for EMS to respond.

This collaborative effort between Avive, the Municipal Assn of SC , and the City of North Augusta - Public Information will strategically deploy Avive Connect AED®s throughout the community and will equip CPR-trained volunteers to respond quickly. All with the goal of increasing bystander intervention and delivering rapid, lifesaving care to individuals experiencing cardiac emergencies.
