APAFSS’s mission is to promote healthy children and families.

We advocate for culturally competent services through education, community building, and leadership development. We strengthen low-moderate income families in San Francisco with a comprehensive set of services to prevent and treat problems that may occur as a result of stress, barriers and challenges of language, finances, and lack of resources.

🌸 A beautiful Baby Shower full of warmth and support at APA Family Support Services! 🌸

We had an amazing turnout of pregnant mothers and new moms with little ones who came together for connection, care, and celebration at our Excelsior Family Resource Center.

A huge thank you to our wonderful public health nurse who shared valuable tips on maternal and newborn health, answered every question with kindness and expertise, and helped ease so many worries. The moms opened up about their experiences—laughing, supporting one another, and leaving feeling stronger and less alone.

None of this would have been possible without the generous sponsorship from Anthem Blue Cross — their partnership made this nurturing space a reality for our families.💙

Sharing of resources to the community

Anthem Medi-Cal members have access to Value-Added Benefits and are able to explore programs they may qualify for such as Fresh Food Connect, Asthma and COPD Relief Catalog, Baby Essentials, Emergency Preparedness Kit and Disaster Relief Funds, Transportation Essentials, GED Assistance and Job Uniform Support.

🎁✨ A huge shoutout to Moms Against Poverty for hosting a joyful Annual Holiday Helping Hand Toy Drive & Gift Wrapping event.

Our team of dedicated volunteers had an amazing time joining the festive fun: wrapping gifts, enjoying the music and treats, and helping spread holiday magic for kids who might otherwise go without.

🎄✨ What a joyful day at Chinatown’s Winter Wonderland! ❄️

APA Family Support Services was thrilled to host a table at this year’s festive celebration, bringing fun games, free gifts, and big smiles to kids and families all day long!

This wonderful community event gave us the perfect chance to spread extra holiday cheer by giving away toys and gifts to little ones who lit up the moment they received them.

Thank you to the organizers for creating such a magical Winter Wonderland—it truly was a fun-filled day of connection, laughter, and togetherness in the heart of Chinatown. Grateful to serve alongside our community! ❤️

🎄✨ Pure holiday magic at APA Family Support Services’ Holiday Party
for Families and Kids! ❤️

More than a hundred of our families and little ones filled the party with joy—laughing through carnival games, snapping adorable photos with Santa, digging into delicious food, and lighting up with huge smiles as they opened beautiful gifts!

None of this would have been possible without the incredible generosity of our Toy Drive partners: a special thank you to Family Giving Tree, Moms Against Poverty, generous banks, law firms, and hotels who stepped up to provide so many wonderful presents that made every child feel truly seen and celebrated this season.

From the bottom of our hearts—thank you to all the donors, volunteers, and partners who helped create these unforgettable memories for families who deserve every bit of holiday cheer.

🎄 What a magical evening at our APA Family Support Services Holiday Party! ❤️

The room was filled with laughter, joy, delicious food, and the warm spirit of togetherness as donors, volunteers, partners and staff gathered to celebrate the season. One of the sweetest highlights was a group of kids, beautifully led by our amazing teen volunteers, singing heartfelt holiday carols that brought smiles to everyone!

A huge, heartfelt thank you to our incredible funders, supporters and community partners for showing up in so many ways—your generosity and presence made this celebration possible and truly special.

Community in Action: Assembling Care Kits for Moms 👶🎒🤝

Today APA Family Support Services joined a fantastic corporate volunteer event to assemble care kits for moms. Each kit includes diapers 🍼, hygiene items 🧴🧼, wet wipes 🧻, and a practical backpack 🎒—small essentials that make a big difference. The employees’ enthusiasm was contagious 🙌; they were thrilled to learn how these supplies help parents who are struggling to afford diapers and other basics for their babies.

We’re especially grateful 💙 for our long-standing partnership—over a decade—with Help a Mother Out 🤝, which powers our diaper distribution and ensures families get what they need, when they need it.

A recent example: a 20-year-old single mom caring for her 8‑month‑old daughter has been moving between temporary places while waiting for stable housing 🏠. With postpartum depression and tight finances, even diapers felt out of reach. Through our counseling, basic-needs support, and free diapers 🎁, she found immediate relief from financial pressure and could focus on bonding with her baby 👩‍👧. These kits—and partners like Help a Mother Out—help turn worry into hope 🌟.

🥧 Happy Thanksgiving from Chinatown! 🦃

Today our Chinatown Family Resource Center hosted a joyful Thanksgiving Celebration at City College of San Francisco – Chinatown/North Beach Campus, filled with laughter, delicious food, and family fun!

A huge thank you to the Portsmouth Square Community Grant for making this heartwarming gathering possible, and an extra special shoutout to our amazing teen volunteers who ran the games and brought so much energy and smiles to the kids!

🌹 A heartfelt thank you to Tri-City Nightingale for an unforgettable Fall Charity Concert – “A Night of Music and Hope”!

During the evening, Tri-City Nightingale generously presented a $2,028 check to APA Family Support Services and another to the San Francisco Sheriff’s Office Women’s Resource Center in support of services for survivors of domestic violence.

For 38 years, APA Family Support Services has stood alongside community partners like the San Francisco Sheriff’s Department to end domestic violence and create safer futures for families across the city. This meaningful gift will help us provide counseling, case management, and emergency services for those who need it most.

Deepest gratitude to Tri-City Nightingale for lifting up survivors and to the Sheriff’s Department for their ongoing commitment to this critical work. Together, hope wins. 💜

🍊🥬 Thrilled to announce a brand-new collaboration!

APA Family Support Services has just launched an exciting new partnership with The SF Market and their award-winning Food Recovery Program!

Starting now, every week we will receive fresh, surplus fruits and vegetables rescued from the historic San Francisco Wholesale Produce Market (a program that’s recovered over 10 million pounds since 2016!).

Our team sorts and redistributes this produce directly to the families we serve in the Excelsior and beyond — turning potential waste into healthy meals and big smiles.

Grateful to The SF Market merchants and staff for welcoming us into this life-changing program.

Together, we’re fighting hunger, reducing food waste, and keeping San Francisco families nourished! 💚

🌲 An unforgettable November staff meeting in the Presidio! 🌉

Our APA Family Support Services team gathered in one of San Francisco’s most treasured places, hosted by the amazing Presidio. We received an inspiring briefing on the Presidio’s proud history and ongoing transformation—from its days as a military post to becoming one of the country’s most successful national park sites.

What makes the Presidio truly unique: it’s a national park where people live, work, and visit every day. Families like the ones we serve can enjoy this living treasure for generations to come.

We also had the privilege of learning from our partners at Chinese for Affirmative Action (CAA) about the continued fight for immigrant rights and language justice—deepening our commitment to the families we support.

Grateful for partners who protect both our public lands and the rights of our immigrant communities. Together, we’re building a stronger, greener, more just San Francisco! 💚

So proud to have joined over 350 leaders at the inaugural Children, Youth & Family Summit: Aligning for Thriving Communities on November 7!

Alongside Mayor Lurie, 11 City departments, 80+ nonprofits, Supervisors, and philanthropic partners, contributed to powerful conversations about building a stronger, more connected cradle-to-career system in San Francisco. Together we explored how coordinated investments, better jobs, and truly integrated education, , , and family support services can transform outcomes for every child and family.

Every day, we walk alongside families raising children, parents facing big challenges, and little ones who deserve the brightest possible start. Being part of this Summit wasn’t just about listening—it was about bringing our frontline experience to the table and helping shape the solutions that will help the families we serve not just survive, but truly thrive. 💙
