Remember that our hormones must be precisely regulated in order for our bodies to function properly and remain in balance. Most of our body's processes are governed by these hormones, and they rely on one another to complete their jobs. Any little imbalance can cause issues.

Seed cycling is a naturopathic remedy that aims to balance estrogen and progesterone levels by incorporating specific seeds into the diet during different menstrual cycle phases. It involves consuming flax and pumpkin seeds during the first half of the cycle (follicular phase) and sunflower and sesame seeds during the second half of the cycle (luteal phase).

The practice of seed cycling is believed to support hormone balance by providing essential fatty acids and other nutrients that promote hormone production in the body. Advocates of seed cycling claim that it can be beneficial for hormone balance at any stage in a woman's life, including during menopause.

To start seed cycling, 1-2 tablespoons of ground flax and pumpkin seeds are typically consumed daily during the follicular phase, which lasts from menstruation to ovulation. Once ovulation occurs, 1-2 tablespoons of ground sunflower and sesame seeds are incorporated daily during the luteal phase.

The seeds can be consumed by the handful or added to salads, oats, yogurt, smoothies, bowls, and toast. It is, however, recommended that the seeds be ground for easy digestion.

Cortisol is a hormone that is released by the adrenal glands in response to stress. It plays a vital role in regulating various processes in the body, including metabolism, immune function, and the body's response to stress. While cortisol itself does not directly cause weight gain, prolonged or chronic elevation of cortisol levels can have an impact on weight.

Chronic stress and elevated cortisol levels can disrupt sleep patterns. Lack of sleep has been associated with weight gain and obesity. It can affect the hormones involved in appetite regulation, leading to increased hunger and a preference for calorie-dense foods.

It is important to note that weight gain is a complex issue, and cortisol is just one factor among many that can contribute to it. Other factors such as diet, physical activity levels, genetics, and overall hormonal balance also play significant roles.

If you are concerned about cortisol levels or experiencing significant weight gain, call our office at 415-754-7576 to schedule a complimentary consultation or fill out this form:

The adrenal glands are small glands located on top of the kidneys that produce various hormones, including cortisol, which helps regulate stress responses and maintain overall well-being.

The concept of adrenal reset typically revolves around the idea that chronic stress or other factors can lead to adrenal fatigue or dysfunction, which may result in symptoms such as fatigue, low energy, sleep disturbances, and difficulty coping with stress. By adopting specific lifestyle changes, dietary modifications, and stress management techniques, the adrenal glands can be supported and allowed to return to their optimal functioning.

If you're looking to support your overall well-being and manage stress, there are evidence-based strategies that can be helpful:

Practice stress management techniques: Engage in activities such as meditation, deep breathing exercises, yoga, or mindfulness to help manage stress and promote relaxation.

Maintain a balanced lifestyle: Prioritize regular sleep patterns, engage in regular exercise, and establish healthy routines to support overall well-being.

Consider professional guidance: If you're experiencing persistent or severe symptoms, it's important to consult with a healthcare professional who can evaluate your specific situation and provide appropriate recommendations or treatments.

Eat a nutritious diet: Focus on consuming a balanced diet with plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats. Avoid excessive caffeine and sugar intake, as they can contribute to energy fluctuations.

Seek support: Build a support network of friends, family, or professionals who can provide guidance, encouragement, and help you manage stress.
