Last night, we were honored to join San Francisco General Hospital Foundation and the community at the annual Gala, celebrating the people whose compassion and commitment strengthen care across our hospital and city.

Public Health Director, Dan Tsai, and our CEO, Dr. Susan Ehrlich, presented the Hero & Hearts Awards to Kelly Brandon, MSN, RNBC, CNS, Melissa Pitts, RN, BNS, and Pamela Dorsey, and our community partners at SF Free Clinic were celebrated with the Community Impact Award.

We are inspired every day by the leadership, advocacy, and resilience of these awardees. Your work reflects the heart of and the power of showing up for patients when it matters most.

Today, ZSFG honored World AIDS Day by reflecting on our history, our community, and our continued leadership in HIV prevention and treatment.

For more than 150 years, ZSFG has stood with San Francisco through its greatest challenges. During the HIV/AIDS epidemic, our doctors, nurses, social workers, and UCSF partners created an international model of compassionate, evidence-based HIV care. That legacy continues today through groundbreaking work at Ward 86 and our citywide efforts to expand testing, prevention, and early treatment.

We remain committed to equity, innovation, and a future free from HIV/AIDS.

The ZSFG Fiscal Year 2024-2025 Annual Report is here! This year's report highlights the incredible work done by the ZSFG team in advancing care, embracing innovation, and meeting the needs of our patients and community. A few key accomplishments from the past year:
✅ 104,000+ patients served
✅ 1,200+ babies delivered
✅ 2,200+ trauma patients cared for
✅ Emergency Department earned Level 3 GEDA accreditation for outstanding care for older adults
✅ U.S. News & World Report named our Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) one of the “2025 Best Nursing Homes”

The Zuckerberg San Francisco General Addiction Care Team was created in 2019 to ensure that every person who comes through our hospital doors has access to skilled, compassionate addiction care.

During the past 7 years, it has served more than 16,000 patients and has trained hundreds of physicians, nurses, and other health workers in person-centered addiction care.

Navigating cancer care just got easier with our new ZSFG Cancer Care website —created together with patients and care teams. This site is a supportive roadmap- designed to help navigate what can often feel like a complex and overwhelming journey- bringing trusted information and resources into one place.

What the site offers:
• Information about care, services and next steps.
• Resources that reflect the needs of our diverse patient population at ZSFG.
• Tools to help patients make decisions that feel right for them

We hope this becomes a space of clarity, trust, and care—for everyone who needs it.

ZSFG welcomed San Francisco District 5 Supervisor Bilal Mahmood for a tour where he met with frontline teams and saw firsthand how ZSFG’s innovative programs are serving patients and families across the city. During his visit led by Dr. Susan Ehrlich, Supervisor Mahmood explored several areas of ZSFG including the Family Birth Center where he saw how parents and newborns receive comprehensive support and care and also met members of Team Lily, the only program of its kind in San Francisco that provides addiction care to meet birthing patients where they are—providing them with critical services and linkages to care for substance use disorder. The visit to the Emergency Department included the Wraparound Project, a violence intervention program providing life-saving interventions ensuring patients in crisis receive holistic care that extends beyond the hospital walls with the goal of reducing violent injuries and criminal recidivism among vulnerable San Francisco residents. Today, Director Dan Tsai joined us to check in on the progress of our seismic safety upgrades and several key construction projects at Zuckerberg San Francisco General.

These projects are more than construction—they’re about:
🔧Creating a safer, more welcoming environment for patients, staff, and visitors
🔧Expanding vital services
🔧Supporting our world-class care teams in delivering the compassionate, patient-centered care ZSFG is known for

We toured the construction site of the new Psychiatric Emergency Services unit—set to increase capacity and serve as an important part of ’s comprehensive behavioral health system.
With these upgrades, we’re:
🚜Bringing care teams together for better collaboration
🚜Removing barriers to access
🚜 Building spaces that support integrated, equitable, and healing-centered care

We did it (again!) – and then some! We teamed up again this year with to host the second annual Milk Drive in !

Thank you to everyone who showed up to share the gift of life by participating at this event.

While we are still tallying up the total milk donated, we know our generous donors will help us nourish and protect some of our most vulnerable babies here in San Francisco and across the country. Don’t forget, just two tablespoons of human milk can help a baby in need thrive and just one quarter of an ounce amounts to one feeding in the NICU.

Our donors’ generosity helps ensure every baby has a fighting chance, no matter their start in life. This is what and compassionate care look like in action.
