Founded in 1941 as California’s first neuropsychiatric institute, UCSF Langley Porter Psychiatric Hospital (LPPH) consists of an adult inpatient unit, an adult partial hospitalization program, an adult intensive outpatient program, and psychiatric consultation-liaison services. It is located next to the UCSF Helen Diller Medical Center at Parnassus Heights. LPPH is administered by the UCSF Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. Together, they constitute one of the largest units in the UCSF School of Medicine and the UCSF Weill Institute for Neurosciences, with a mission focused on research (basic, translational and clinical), teaching, patient care, and public service.

We are excited to announce that Langley Porter Psychiatric Hospital is moving to the seventh floor of UCSF Medical Center at Mount Zion!

The newly-renovated space spans approximately 26,000 square feet and is designed to enhance the quality of care we provide to our patients. Langley Porter Psychiatric Hospital will continue to offer a comprehensive range services – including an expanded 30-bed acute psychiatric inpatient program and intensive outpatient programs. The new facility, which replaces services at Parnassus Heights—a location that opened in 1943 as California's first modern neuropsychiatric institute—will offer a more welcoming, functional, and safe environment for both our patients and dedicated staff.

Join us on Sat, Nov 18, 2023, 9am-12pm for International Survivors of Su***de Loss Day. A safe space for survivors of su***de loss to find support, hope, and understanding. The UCSF Dept. of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences faculty and the San Francisco VA Medical Center's Su***de Prevention Program staff will moderate discussion groups where attendees can share their experiences and ask questions.

Admission is FREE, and while advance registration is encouraged, we warmly welcome drop-ins. 💙 Non-Loss Survivors who wish to show support and learn are also encouraged to attend.

Founded in 1941 as California’s first neuropsychiatric institute, UCSF Langley Porter Psychiatric Hospital and Clinics (LPPHC) consists of an adult inpatient unit, an adult partial hospitalization program, an adult intensive outpatient program, and adult/child outpatient services accounting for nearly 48,000 visits per year. It is located next to the UCSF Helen Diller Medical Center at Parnassus Heights.

LPPHC is administered by the UCSF Department of Psychiatry. Together, they constitute one of the largest units in the UCSF School of Medicine and the UCSF Weill Institute for Neurosciences, with a mission focused on research (basic, translational and clinical), teaching, patient care, and public service.

Our faculty and staff members are recognized for their leadership roles in comprehensive and compassionate patient care, pioneering research, excellence in training the next generation of leaders, advancing public policy to advance mental health, and commitment to diversity.
