February is Black History Month

At OTTP-NorCal, we prioritize hiring clinicians who reflect the richly diverse communities we serve—so every client can see themselves represented and receive care informed by varied perspectives and lived experiences.

This month, we asked our clinicians to share how culturally responsive care shows up in their practice.

Culturally responsive care means recognizing and honoring a client’s cultural background, identity, and lived experiences—and adapting care to meet them where they are.

Stay tuned for more perspectives from our clinicians throughout February.

She loves responding directly to youth needs, like selecting gifts that combine essentials with items that bring joy and a sense of being seen. She also draws inspiration from OTTP’s clinicians, witnessing firsthand how their work transforms lives.

OTTP-NorCal has been selected as a beneficiary of Falletti Foods Bag Donation Program!

Falletti Foods is an independent grocery store in San Francisco that supports local nonprofits through sustainable shopping. Now through March 31, every time you bring your own bag—or purchase one at checkout—5¢ is donated to support local charities, including OTTP-NorCal.

By shopping sustainably, you’re helping provide mental health support to children, youth, and young adults across Northern California. It’s a small action that makes a big impact.

With support from OTTP clinicians, a youth at the Alameda County Juvenile Justice Center went from refusing therapy to fully engaging—sharing ideas, teaching new skills, and building trust.

His growth extended beyond OT: he successfully advocated for early release, proudly recognizing his own strengths. Stories like this show how OTTP-NorCal helps youth build confidence, self-advocacy, and meaningful connections—empowering them to take positive steps toward their goals and futures.

We’re deeply grateful to the boys team charity, Hacienda Chapter in Moraga, for assembling more than 50 food kits for the youth and families we serve. Through hours of service, these young volunteers helped create meaningful support during a time when food insecurity continues to impact many in our community.

These kits do more than provide nourishment — they support therapeutic goals in occupational therapy by encouraging independence, connection, and everyday life skills through cooking activities youth can engage in with therapists or at home with their families.

“Partnering with OTTP aligns closely with boys team charity Hacienda’s mission to develop young men of character through service. This partnership teaches boys the importance of giving back, builds empathy, and helps them understand the real impact they can have in their community.” — Alicia Griffith
