PRC PRC helps those affected by HIV/AIDS, substance use, or mental health issues realize their best selves. Their education. How others see them.

There’s more to health than just, “Are you sick or well?” True wellness goes so much deeper than that. To truly help a person, you must help them on every level, assess and address all the social factors that affect them: Their environment. How they see themselves. But, up against so much, trying to change so many things, we simply cannot do it alone. We need you there, too, fighting right alongside us. At PRC, we believe that everyone – regardless of their situation – has value and potential, and we fight tirelessly to help them realize that, by directly tackling these social factors. With your help, we help our clients realize their best selves. By helping them stabilize their housing. Develop the skills to find and keep a job. Overcome substance and mental health issues. Secure income and healthcare benefits. And, most importantly, by giving them hope, and a path to new opportunities. Together, we can shine a light on the causes that affect our clients and ensure they get the attention and respect they deserve. Because when people have the ability to realize their potential, to lead stronger and more productive lives, they add to – not take away from – the community. So help us improve our community by helping its most vulnerable members.

Earlier this month, the in partnership with Black Action Alliance, Fox News, CalVoices, Black Women Organized for Political Action and others, kicked off Black History Month by co-hosting the first televised bipartisan 2026 California gubernatorial candidate debate.

Held at the Ruth Williams Bayview Opera House in San Francisco, the debate created a critical platform to center Black and other marginalized communities, lived experience, and policy priorities that are often left out in statewide political discourse.

The debate featured gubernatorial candidates Xavier Becerra (D), Steve Hilton (R), Matt Mahan (D), Tom Steyer (D), Tony Thurmond 9D), Antonio Villaraigosa (D), and Betty Yee (D)

The policy priorities elevated during the debate reflect the lived realities of PRC clients and the ongoing fight for housing stability, health equity, economic opportunity, and dignity for all.

The will continue to create forums that make these issues visible and advocate for systems that are equitable, accessible, and responsive to the needs of those most impacted.

We are deeply grateful for the ‘s enduring partnership and the powerful example of community in action. As PRC’s longest-running community fundraiser, the Bare Chest Calendar has now raised more than $2 million for our work since 1984.

On February 19 at Powerhouse Bar, the 2026 Bare Chest Calendar Men presented PRC and fellow beneficiaries with a check totaling $231,058 from this season’s fundraising efforts.

PRC’s CEO Dr. Deborah Hawkes energized the crowd and underscored the tremendous impact of this partnership. With funding for HIV services and testing facing significant cuts, she emphasized that community-led fundraising efforts like BCC are not just meaningful; they are essential to sustaining services for the more than 5,000 clients PRC supports annually.

Thank you Bare Chest Calendar!

PRC’s CEO Dr. Deborah Hawkes recently joined the fourth gathering of ‘Aging While Black SF’, part of a national movement led by Raymond Jetson and Kali Graves, dedicated to improving the aging experience of Black elders through three pillars:

Recalibrate the village, embrace innovation, and lean into Sankofa. (The Sankofa bird represents the wisdom of the elders as invaluable and must be systemically embraced to build stronger communities).

We will continue to work with Raymond and Kali on recommendations that stem from the needs of the Black aging community here in SF.

We're deeply concerned about how proposed budget reductions to HIV grant funding will affect people we serve. These cuts are not abstract - they translate directly into housing instability, untreated health needs, and reduced access to essential services that keep people safe and stable.

Budgets reflect priorities, and priorities reflect values.

We call on our leaders at all levels of government to reverse proposed cuts and protect the community-based infrastructure that keeps San Francisco safe, equitable, and a place people know they can get support.

The San Francisco Department of Public Health says the Centers for Disease Control is pulling $8 million in grants which will largely impact HIV treatment an...

We are so grateful for the highly dedicated staff that make our programs and services impactful and essential for San Franciscans.

We’re sharing a recent client testimonial here that expresses gratitude for Martin Muneton, Director of Client Services. Thank you Martin for bringing incredible professional expertise, patience and kindness to the work you do each day, and changing people’s lives in the process.

“The PRC Emergency Fund program has been truly life-changing for me. During one of the most frightening and vulnerable periods of my life—battling an aggressive cancer while enduring intense treatments—this program did far more than provide financial assistance. It restored my sense of hope, dignity, and belief that I can survive and win this fight.

Stress, fear, and hardship can be overwhelming and even dangerous when someone is already fighting for their life, and PRC’s support genuinely helped lift that burden at a critical moment. I want to especially recognize Mr. Martin Muneton, whose professionalism, compassion, patience, and kindness were nothing short of extraordinary.

At no point did he show frustration, even when I was understandably stressed, emotional, or in need of reassurance. Instead, he consistently demonstrated empathy, understanding, and a genuine love for his work and for helping others. His calm, respectful, and caring approach made me feel seen, heard, and valued as a human being—not just a case file.

In a time when fear and uncertainty can easily overwhelm someone, Martin’s support felt stabilizing and life-affirming. I reached out to more than 20 organizations while in crisis, and PRC was the only one that truly stepped up to help me. This experience has shown me how vital PRC’s mission is and how deeply its staff embodies that mission in action…I am profoundly grateful to PRC and to Mr. Muneton for helping me believe that I am not alone and that I can continue fighting for my life with hope and strength.” -PRC Client
