PRC PRC helps those affected by HIV/AIDS, substance use, or mental health issues realize their best selves. Their education. How others see them.

There’s more to health than just, “Are you sick or well?” True wellness goes so much deeper than that. To truly help a person, you must help them on every level, assess and address all the social factors that affect them: Their environment. How they see themselves. But, up against so much, trying to change so many things, we simply cannot do it alone. We need you there, too, fighting right alongsi

de us. At PRC, we believe that everyone – regardless of their situation – has value and potential, and we fight tirelessly to help them realize that, by directly tackling these social factors. With your help, we help our clients realize their best selves. By helping them stabilize their housing. Develop the skills to find and keep a job. Overcome substance and mental health issues. Secure income and healthcare benefits. And, most importantly, by giving them hope, and a path to new opportunities. Together, we can shine a light on the causes that affect our clients and ensure they get the attention and respect they deserve. Because when people have the ability to realize their potential, to lead stronger and more productive lives, they add to – not take away from – the community. So help us improve our community by helping its most vulnerable members.

In San Francisco, a single setback—a layoff, a medical bill, or a missed paycheck—can lead to becoming unhoused.

And once someone loses housing, getting back is incredibly difficult.

But prevention works:

Between March 2025 and November 2025, 280 clients responded to PRC’s outreach:

• 100% of PRC Move-In Assistance clients remained housed
• 98% of Eviction Prevention clients remained housed

Timely support changes outcomes.

Last week, we had the opportunity to share an exciting milestone for The Unseen Class—a documentary centered on the health journeys of seven Black trans individuals—at a rough impact screening hosted by Fancy Films in Los Angeles.

This screening brought together a group of documentary filmmakers and industry professionals to view the latest cut of the film and offer feedback as we move into the final stages of production. It also marked the first time the film was experienced on the big screen with full theater sound—an incredibly powerful moment for our team.

The response was overwhelmingly positive, with thoughtful discussion around how the film balances grief, resilience, and joy, and how it can serve both as a reflection for the Black trans community and an educational tool for broader audiences.

We’re deeply grateful for the insights shared and for spaces like this that support impact-driven storytelling. We look forward to continuing this journey and sharing more soon.

Earlier this month, the in partnership with Black Action Alliance, Fox News, CalVoices, Black Women Organized for Political Action and others, kicked off Black History Month by co-hosting the first televised bipartisan 2026 California gubernatorial candidate debate.

Held at the Ruth Williams Bayview Opera House in San Francisco, the debate created a critical platform to center Black and other marginalized communities, lived experience, and policy priorities that are often left out in statewide political discourse.

The debate featured gubernatorial candidates Xavier Becerra (D), Steve Hilton (R), Matt Mahan (D), Tom Steyer (D), Tony Thurmond 9D), Antonio Villaraigosa (D), and Betty Yee (D)

The policy priorities elevated during the debate reflect the lived realities of PRC clients and the ongoing fight for housing stability, health equity, economic opportunity, and dignity for all.

The will continue to create forums that make these issues visible and advocate for systems that are equitable, accessible, and responsive to the needs of those most impacted.

We are deeply grateful for the ‘s enduring partnership and the powerful example of community in action. As PRC’s longest-running community fundraiser, the Bare Chest Calendar has now raised more than $2 million for our work since 1984.

On February 19 at Powerhouse Bar, the 2026 Bare Chest Calendar Men presented PRC and fellow beneficiaries with a check totaling $231,058 from this season’s fundraising efforts.

PRC’s CEO Dr. Deborah Hawkes energized the crowd and underscored the tremendous impact of this partnership. With funding for HIV services and testing facing significant cuts, she emphasized that community-led fundraising efforts like BCC are not just meaningful; they are essential to sustaining services for the more than 5,000 clients PRC supports annually.

Thank you Bare Chest Calendar!

PRC’s CEO Dr. Deborah Hawkes recently joined the fourth gathering of ‘Aging While Black SF’, part of a national movement led by Raymond Jetson and Kali Graves, dedicated to improving the aging experience of Black elders through three pillars:

Recalibrate the village, embrace innovation, and lean into Sankofa. (The Sankofa bird represents the wisdom of the elders as invaluable and must be systemically embraced to build stronger communities).

We will continue to work with Raymond and Kali on recommendations that stem from the needs of the Black aging community here in SF.

We're deeply concerned about how proposed budget reductions to HIV grant funding will affect people we serve. These cuts are not abstract - they translate directly into housing instability, untreated health needs, and reduced access to essential services that keep people safe and stable.

Budgets reflect priorities, and priorities reflect values.

We call on our leaders at all levels of government to reverse proposed cuts and protect the community-based infrastructure that keeps San Francisco safe, equitable, and a place people know they can get support.

The San Francisco Department of Public Health says the Centers for Disease Control is pulling $8 million in grants which will largely impact HIV treatment an...
