🌿 Chinese Herb Highlight: Luóhànguǒ (Monkfruit) 🌿

Luóhànguǒ, also known as Monkfruit, is a treasured herbal specialty from Guilin in Guangxi, China. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), this fruit is valued for its cooling nature and gentle sweetness.

✨ Why TCM practitioners love Luóhànguǒ:
✅ Moistens the lungs and helps soothe coughs
✅ Supports digestion and may help relieve constipation
✅ Contains mogrosides, natural sweet compounds that make it a great sugar alternative for people with diabetes or those following low-carb diets

Because of its naturally sweet flavor and cooling properties, Luóhànguǒ is often brewed into a refreshing herbal tea, especially during warmer weather.

🍵 How to Make Luóhànguǒ Tea
1) Rinse the fruit and break it apart (use both pulp and shell).
2) Add to 4–5 cups of water and bring to a boil.
3) Simmer 15–30 minutes. The longer it simmers, the sweeter it becomes.
4) Strain and enjoy hot or chilled.

⚠️ Avoid use if you have:
Stomach pain, diarrhea, chills, fatigue, allergies, or if you are pregnant or menstruating.

This information provides general guidance only. For personalized recommendations, please consult a licensed TCM practitioner.

As temperatures rise, it's crucial to take care of yourself and your loved ones. Here are some tips to stay cool and safe:

💧 Hydrate: Drink plenty of water throughout the day. Avoid alcohol and caffeine, which can dehydrate you.

🏠 Stay Indoors: Stay in air-conditioned places as much as possible. If you don't have AC, visit public places like malls or libraries.

👕 Wear Light Clothing: Opt for loose, light-colored clothing to help keep cool.

🕒 Avoid Peak Sun Hours: Try to stay indoors between 10 AM and 4 PM when the sun is the strongest.

👶👵🐶 Check on Vulnerable People: Keep an eye on children, the elderly, and pets, ensuring they are cool and hydrated.

🚨 Know the Signs of Heatstroke: Watch out for symptoms like dizziness, nausea, headache, and rapid heartbeat. If you suspect heatstroke, seek medical help immediately.

🌞 Stay safe during the heatwave and take care! 🌡️💦

New Blood Pressure Guidelines: What You Should Know
The American Heart Association and American College of Cardiology have updated their guidelines for managing high blood pressure.

For most adults, the goal is to keep blood pressure below 130/80. If it’s safe for you, getting closer to 120/80 can offer even greater health benefits. However, everyone is different, especially older adults or those with other health conditions, so your doctor may recommend a personalized target. If blood pressure remains high after 3–6 months of healthy lifestyle changes (like eating well, exercising, and reducing salt), medication may be recommended. Some people may start medication sooner, especially if they have conditions such as diabetes, chronic kidney disease, or heart disease.

💊 Your pharmacist can help too!
They can explain how your medications work, answer questions, and help you take them safely. Managing blood pressure supports your heart, kidneys, and brain health.

Colorectal cancer is one of the most common cancers in the U.S.—but the good news is it’s highly preventable and treatable when detected early.

Most adults should begin regular screening at age 45, or earlier if you have a family history or other risk factors. Screening options include:
✔️ At-home stool tests (FIT) – easy, noninvasive, and done once a year
✔️ Colonoscopy – allows doctors to detect and remove polyps during the exam

Because colorectal cancer often develops without symptoms, regular screening is especially important. March is Colorectal Cancer Screening Month—take charge of your health and get screened.
