Jim Christrup, LCSW

Jim Christrup, LCSW Jiim Christrup, Licensed Clinical Social Worker I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a private practice in San Francisco since 1998.

I have counseled a wide variety of clients in community settings since 1983. I offer gentle, supportive, interactive psychotherapy for individuals and couples. Over the years, I have found that an integrated body/mind/spirit approach to psychotherapy can be especially effective in working with many difficult life problems. I have been trained in Hakomi Therapy (a somatic approach), Buddhist Psychology and Mindfulness Practices, EMDR, Emotion Focused Therapy for Couples, and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy. As your therapist, I act as guide and advocate for the person you are capable of being. Together, we can build on your strengths and resources to discover what resonates deeply, and explore new more satisfying and joyful ways of being in the world.

A nice article to help in finding balance in the current climate of chaos and insanity that we are all living in. It's useful to remember that in order to help others we need to help ourselves first. We don't help anyone by getting frozen in fear and hopelessness.

"The way to live a full life is to act quickly. Particularly as you grow older, it's alarmingly easy to let a year or two (or five) slip by without doing the big things you always felt like doing. You get into a rhythm—not necessarily one you love, but one you become comfortable repeating—and the grooves of your daily routine become deeper and more established.

Speed is perpetually undervalued. That doesn't mean you should feel frantic or rushed. In fact, it's likely you should eliminate some of the things that make you feel so busy to make space for things you always wanted to do. But it definitely means you should stop letting the days drift by waiting for the moment to be right.

Stop acting like there is infinite time. This—the way you are living right now—is your one life."

Take a breath, quiet your heart and listen deeply.
There is so much coming and going, and yet…
feel how underneath it all is a vast silence
and a spaciousness that holds everything in its balance.

Recognize that even our big problems are part of a long march demanding us to honor our human connection, our interdependence with all life.

I was watching the new documentary “The Last Movie Stars,” and episode 1 ended with this. Not just advice for actors: “The Actor’s Vow” – Elia Kazan

I will take my rightful place on the stage
and I will be myself.
I am not a cosmic orphan.
I have no reason to be timid.
I will respond as I feel;
awkwardly, vulgarly, but respond.
I will have my throat open,
I will have my heart open,
I will be vulnerable.
I may have anything or everything
the world has to offer, but the thing I need most,
and want most, is to be myself.
I will admit rejection, admit pain, admit frustration,
admit even pettiness, admit shame, admit outrage,
admit anything and everything that happens to me.
The best and most human parts of me are those
that I have inhabited and hidden from the world.
I will work on it.
I will raise my voice.
I will be heard.

"To be hopeful in bad times is not just foolishly romantic. It is based on the fact that human history is a history not only of cruelty, but also of compassion, sacrifice, courage, kindness.

What we choose to emphasize in this complex history will determine our lives. If we see only the worst, it destroys our capacity to do something. If we remember those times and places—and there are so many—where people have behaved magnificently, this gives us the energy to act, and at least the possibility of sending this spinning top of a world in a different direction.

And if we do act, in however small a way, we don't have to wait for some grand utopian future. The future is an infinite succession of presents, and to live now as we think human beings should live, in defiance of all that is bad around us, is itself a marvelous victory."

Simple Truth
by Eve Decker

The way I see it there are two choices

I can wait for all these voices To tell me I have made it
Or I can love myself the way I am
The way I see it there are two choices
Try to do it their way Or find my own rejoicing music
And play

I’ve been given a responsibility
To love myself like I would love a child
Chaotic wild and turning
Building bridges, bridges burning
Just as I am, to love me

Maybe self hatred protects me
Until the day no one rejects me
If I reject myself first, your coldness might not hurt as much
Maybe if I work harder
Try more, do more, faster, longer
The day will come when I feel loved by everyone

I’ve been given a responsibility
To love myself like I love trees
Okay when branches crack and fall
No striving no have to’s at all
The sparkling green that breathes me
Just as I am loves me

No I do not have it all together
I never have and I never will
And I know that you don’t have it all together either
‘cause nothing here was made that way
We’re all falling, we’re all flying, we’re all playing, we’re all dying

We’ve been given a responsibility
To love ourselves like we love freedom
Using courage just to see
The simple truth of you and me
Love looks like humble gratitude Love looks like endless forgiveness
Just as we are just as we are just as we are

The way I see it there are two choices
We can wait for all these voices
To tell us we have made it
Or we can love ourselves the way we are.

Phase 3 clinical trials are close to completion prior to seeking FDA approval for legal use of psychedelics as an important and powerful treatment tool for PTSD. These are also powerful tools in targeting treatment resistant depression and addictions. This is an important and life changing opportunity for effective treatment for millions of people who are currently suffering from these conditions. Approval by 2023 is likely.

Some service members and others suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) have had little relief from traditional anti-depressants used in conjunc...
