Alex Sanchez Acupuncture & Wellness

Alex Sanchez Acupuncture & Wellness Alex Sanchez is an acupuncturist in the San Francisco Bay Area, providing patients with acupuncture, herbal medicine, diet & movement therapy.

My practice began in San Francisco in 2011, treating patients in the Cow Hollow neighborhood and responding to house calls in the local area. Over the years, I have worked alongside massage therapists, yoga instructors, chiropractors, naturopathic doctors and physicians. Through my experience of working with different practitioners, I have found that the best results come from a combination of therapies and a mindful approach towards rehabilitation. Today, I treat my patients using Traditional Chinese Medicine and in addition, I encourage patients to utilize other healing techniques in their daily lives such as meditation, stretching, yoga and awareness exercises. My goal is to help people thrive and to empower them so that they can master their own health. After having moved away for a year, I am now back in San Francisco treating patients in the Bay Area.

It's been 1 whole year since I stopped practicing acupuncture at !

I miss my patients and doing acupuncture/cupping treatments that leave the room steamy and smelling like amazing essential oils.๐Ÿ”ฎ๐ŸŒธ

Luckily, I've had the pleasure of working with online, teaching virtual meditation-stretch-acupressure classes for their employees and sharing my strategies on how to deal with stress and health in a more mindful way. According to them, my class was the most sought after and engaged class they've ever hosted since quarantine started so I'm pretty proud of that! ๐Ÿ˜Šโœจ

As a cancer survivor, I'm not quite ready to jump back into practicing in person again but I am happy to provide support to anyone that needs it over zoom.

DM me if you have any questions about meditation, acupressure, herbs or just general health stuff.
You can also send me a message through my site (link in bio).

Please stay safe, get your vaccine and be weary of those variants! ๐Ÿ’œ

โœฟ Free Class! Sunday @ 11am โœฟ
๐Ÿ”ธ
Stress management is a critical factor in preventing illness and keeping our immune systems strong. Although we canโ€™t control stressors in our external environment, we can focus on changing our internal environment and improving our ability to respond to stress in a healthier way.
๐Ÿ”ธ
Join me for a FREE guided session of meditation and acupressure this Sunday, 5/31. Youโ€™ll learn techniques that can be used at home to help you unwind and melt stress away.
๐Ÿ”ธ
The session will include a short meditation and some light stretching to help loosen up your muscles and get your body ready for acupressure. Together, weโ€™ll activate a variety of acupressure points on the face, scalp, neck, shoulders, forearms and hands that will help you feel relaxed and refreshed.
๐Ÿ”ธ
Class duration: 30 minutes. No equipment or materials are necessary.
๐Ÿ”ธ
Book through Satori Yoga https://bit.ly/SelfCareSundays-Satori or through the link in my bio on ig. See you there! ๐Ÿ’Ÿ

Herbs, like prescription drugs, have side effects and can interact with your current prescriptions. The Memorial Sloan-Kettering website has fantastic, up to date information on herb side effects and herb-drug interactions. If you are taking prescription drugs, or if you have an autoimmune disease or other type of serious condition (diabetes, cancer, etc), please look up the herb at: www.mskcc.org under the โ€œAbout Herbs, Botanicals & Other Productsโ€ or go here directly: https://bit.ly/3fv6W4c to see if an herb alters the effects of your prescription.

๐Ÿ‘
Now that we're well into our new, stay-at-home routines, here's a quick reminder on how to keep your immune system strong:
๐Ÿ‘
๐†๐ž๐ญ ๐ž๐ง๐จ๐ฎ๐ ๐ก ๐ฌ๐ฅ๐ž๐ž๐ฉ: Prioritizing sleep is crucial. One should aim for 7-9 hours of sleep/night, preferably falling asleep between 10-11pm to follow one's natural circadian rhythm. Getting adequate rest improves the quality of your white blood cells and the production of cytokines (signaling/messenger molecules), which help your body fight off bacteria and viruses more effectively. ๐Ÿ™…๐Ÿป๐Ÿ™…๐Ÿป๐Ÿ™…๐Ÿป
๐Ÿ‘
๐„๐š๐ญ ๐š ๐œ๐ฅ๐ž๐š๐ง, ๐ฏ๐š๐ซ๐ข๐ž๐ ๐๐ข๐ž๐ญ: Focus on eating real foods with lots of vegetables, making balanced meals and incorporating nourishing foods like broths, porridge and soups. Include warming spices and anti-viral foods like garlic, ginger and lemon. Fermented foods with good probiotics like yogurt, tempeh, kombucha, sauerkraut, miso, etc., are good for the gut and also help increase regulatory T cells that regulate the inflammatory response of our immune systems. Alcohol and sugar should be limited. ๐Ÿ‘ˆ๐Ÿผ
๐Ÿ‘
๐’๐ญ๐š๐ฒ ๐ก๐ฒ๐๐ซ๐š๐ญ๐ž๐: Increase your water intake. If it feels good to you, try to drink 1/2 your body weight in ounces daily. Water intake can include water from tea, soups and smoothies. ๐Ÿฅ—๐Ÿœ๐Ÿต
๐Ÿ‘
๐Œ๐จ๐ฏ๐ž/๐’๐ฐ๐ž๐š๐ญ: Aim for 30 minutes of moderate exercise a day. Our bodies love a good walk. Moving blood, lymph and sweat helps the body process and eliminate external pathogens. Overexercising can actually lower your immune system so make sure to allow proper recovery time after working out. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿฝ
๐Ÿ‘
๐Ž๐ฎ๐ญ๐๐จ๐จ๐ซ๐ฌ: If it's available to you, try to spend about 2 hours per week outside. Enjoy the sunshine and breathe fresh air into your lungs.
๐Ÿ‘
๐๐ซ๐จ๐ฆ๐จ๐ญ๐ž ๐ซ๐ž๐ฅ๐š๐ฑ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง: aka stress management. Stress can lower our immune systems. To help manage stress, try meditation, deep breathing or breathwork, yoga, qi gong, stretching, journaling and/or herbs that help calm the nervous system down like lemon balm or skullcap.
๐Ÿ‘
My next post will be on herbs & supplements to help boost the immune system and prevent illness. If you have any questions, please DM me. ๐ŸŒธ

This photo was taken from our last community acupuncture event! ๐Ÿ’†๐Ÿปโœจ๐ŸŒˆ
*
On the last Sunday of March, I'll be doing another community acupuncture event, only this time it will be on the body๐Ÿง๐Ÿปrather than just the ears.๐Ÿ‘‚๐Ÿผ
*
Community Acupuncture refers to a group style of acupuncture, typically offered at a lower, sliding scale rate ($20-40). Itโ€™s part of a movement to help remove the barrier of cost from healing and healthcare, making acupuncture more accessible for those who need it. ๐Ÿ“
*
The space will be set up with yoga mats, blankets and pillows for you to lay down and relax during your treatment. We use points on the scalp, ear and below the elbows and knees to treat the entire body. Even if you have lower back pain, we can still use points on the hands and feet (called distal points) to treat your back pain. ๐Ÿ‘ˆ๐Ÿผ
*
Please be mindful that when you come into the space, there will be other people quietly receiving treatment at the same time. ๐Ÿคซ
*
As a health provider and as someone that works with patients that are immune compromised, I am taking extra precautions to prevent COVID-19 exposure. I would like to ask for those that are experiencing viral symptoms like fever, chills, aches, cough, vomiting or diarrhea to please stay home. We will be offering more community acupuncture in the future. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ

Come restore and rebalance with me this Sunday at with ear acupuncture๐Ÿ‘‚๐Ÿผโœจ
*
Similar to reflexology of the foot, the ear is a micro system that reflects the entire body. ๐ŸŒฟ
*
Ear acupuncture helps treat anxiety, depression, stress management, pain, regulating sleep, PTSD and addictions. ๐ŸŒฟ
*
Treatment sessions typically last between 20-40 minutes long and are done in a group setting while you relax in a chair or lay on a yoga mat with blankets and pillows. Patients are seen on a drop-in, first come, first served basis. I hope to see you there! ๐ŸŒฟ

Herb name: Rose buds
Latin name: Rose damascena
Pinyin name: Mei Gui Hua
๐ŸŒน
This sweet, slightly bitter and warming herb is helpful in regulating Liver Qi by promoting movement in the body and relieving stagnation.
๐ŸŒน
Some symptoms (there are many) of Liver Qi stagnation include: inappropriate or constant anger, depression, resentment, mood swings, frequent sighing, tightness under the rib cage (hypochondriac and epigastric regions), sensation of a lump in the throat, hiccups, PMS with irritability, irregular or painful periods and the list goes on! It's one of the most common diagnoses, especially for those living in a big city.
๐ŸŒน
Rose buds are the ultimate self love herb. ๐Ÿต๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿ’• They calm the mind, they are high in antioxidants, Vitamin C, and perfect for infusions in tea. You can pick some up at in SF or online through . ๐ŸŒนโœจ

Using a technique here known as threading through the muscle. After palpating the neck, shoulder and back muscles, feeling for spots of tension and tenderness, acupuncture needles are inserted obliquely through the tense muscles to soften and relax the tissues. This is a great way to get even deeper relief from massage or cupping.
