Meditation is oneness.

In the Yoga Sutras, yoga is defined as the stilling of the fluctuations of the mind.

But what if meditation doesn’t look the way you think it should?

This weekend in Boulder, Colorado, while using pressed flowers to make art, I remembered that art itself can be meditation.

Meditation isn’t always sitting still.

It’s sustained attention.
It’s absorption.
It’s the moment you forget everything because you are fully present.

That can happen in asana.
In art.
In Yoga Nidra.
Anywhere, really.

And you don’t have to be an “artist” or a “serious meditator.”

You can be anyone.

1 tsp (or so) of white sesame seeds will give you a calcium boost (for stronger bones + teeth, and, if you brush your teeth after, without toothpaste, the risidual oils from the seeds will whiten your teeth. Sesame seeds also taste good!

Yoga for now.

I teach yoga to everyone and started teaching in Manhattan a long time ago at the 92nd Street Y. It was scary for me but beautiful. I keep practicing yoga and teaching yoga because it helps me. Because of that I know it can help others if they are interested. I’ve been traveling back and forth to Florence, Italy regularly since 2015. I teach there and the students are wonderfully diverse, funny, intelligent, exhausted and looking for something to help them and to feel better. It’s like this everywhere now.

I started teaching yoga to pregnant woman long before I became pregnant. It was really accidental. No one knew how to teach women yoga when they were pregnant so I volunteered to figure it out and get some training. It’s been a beautiful path for me as it has helped me come to terms with culture, tradition, health, taboos, misbeliefs, motherhood and parenting. The photo above is from prenatal videos with Udaya.com they became available last summer. (You can order them through my website with a discount.)

I like to teach everyone yoga and I love it when everyone is there--a spectrum of people during all ages of life--adding in culture is even better. This is real life and mixing real life with yoga is my personal favorite way to be.
