Psoas Massage + Bodywork

Psoas Massage + Bodywork Psoas isn’t a spa. It’s a human body shop. call or email us today to book your appointment! They take massage deadly serious at Psoas.

Experts in how muscles react to strain and stress and how to keep one’s body performing at its best, our knowledgeable, experienced therapists custom design each session to meet your individual needs. Psoas Massage + Bodywork is San Francisco’s premier massage therapy clinic, consistently voted the No. 1 place for massage in the San Francisco Bay Area. Psoas (so-as) was founded in 2003 by Jennifer Lightstone and Scott Schwartz, two seasoned and talented bodyworkers who shared a vision for a different kind of massage company. Not as a spa but as a serious clinic, where clients could come to get healthier, feel better in their bodies, become better athletes, and address injuries that other methods could not seem to touch. Born from a desire to aid athletes and people in pain, Psoas also partners with traditional and alternative healthcare professionals to provide holistic and integrated care. Psoas maintains the highest standards in massage therapy, requiring therapists to have over 700 hours of education, a state license for practicing, and a minimum of 500 hours of client experience. Most of their therapists far exceed these requirements, with extensive clinical experience and thousands of practice hours on their resumes. Psoas continues to be therapist-owned and operated, ensuring that their business goals are centered on providing the most knowledgeable massage therapy available. At the heart of Psoas is a core philosophy that guides all their work—and sharply distinguishes them from other massage establishments. That philosophy is simply this: they believe that massage and bodywork are powerful tools for creating health and wellness in the body—and with expertise, one can quickly help people achieve a level of comfort and ease of movement that they might not experience otherwise. Based on this philosophy, Psoas provides a new and different approach to bodywork that their clients find both vital and refreshing. "Psoas Massage and Bodywork in San Francisco is the Holy Grail of therapeutic massage. Once you visit, you'll never feel the same about another massage studio." -City Sports Magazine

As of January 2026, the California State law recognizes CAMTC Certificate holders as Health Care Providers.

This is a game changer for bodyworkers in CA. Clients often think massage is just for relaxation but we are here to prove the opposite.

Bodywork and massage should be part of anyone's health and wellness journey. The body NEEDS manual release to untie knots, boost bloodflow for muscle recovery and clear fluids around the body for better function and pain free movement.

Many of our clients come to us after years living with pain, and they leave with instant relief. As we now recognize our practitioners as healthcare providers, we encourage everyone to try a session and experience the relief of bodywork.

3 simple techniques to help you get rid of your low back pain and improve your strengthnening exercises:

The Brace: Breathe into your sides before you lift.

Anti-Rotation: Add Palof presses or deadbugs to your warm-up.

Slow Down: Control the eccentric (lowering) phase of your movements.

Your spine and core are connected. One withouth the other will lead to compensation and imbalances and that in turn, leads to pain and stiffness as you overload one part of your body and ignore the other.
