Dharma Psychiatry

Dharma Psychiatry I help people access their inner healing resources to live more productive and fulfilling lives.

I help early career professionals with concerns of productivity, inattention, anxiety, low mood, or stress management by specializing in Integrative Psychiatry. This is an emerging field of mental health which incorporates evidence based approaches from the standard Western medical system as well as growing evidence for use of Complementary and Alternative Medicines. I work with individuals (and families if appropriate) to identify coping strategies and stress management skills to help relieve suffering and improve wellbeing. I specialize in behavioral issues; worries, fears and anxieties; anger/rage; inattention/poor concentration; impulsivity/hyperactivity; difficulty with peers; mood concerns; sleep troubles; stress management; and recovery from trauma. My approach to Integrative Psychiatry explores the dynamic interactions of the mind, brain, body, and spirit. I utilize healing approaches from my background in meditation, yoga, acupuncture, and psychotherapies (psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness-based) as augmentation of standard medication management or nutritional supplementation as indicated by the individual's presentation. I emphasize mental health and wellbeing rather than the standard focus on pathology and diagnosis. Through my training in acupuncture, yoga and mindfulness-based practices, I integrate body based therapies and relaxation skills training into one's individualized treatment plan that may also draw on standard psychiatric treatments as indicated.
