No one should have to suffer, transition or die alone. Maitri is a Residential Care Facility for the Make a Gift: https://www.maitrisf.org/donate/

Since 1987, Maitri has offered 15-beds, serviced by skilled professionals and dedicated volunteers who offer nursing and personal care as well as emotional and spiritual resources to help meet the special needs associated with HIV-related illness. This non-profit program in San Francisco is focused especially on those who might otherwise be without adequate resources or care.

Happy Trans Day of Visibility to everyone celebrating, and to everyone who just needs to be reminded today: you are seen. 🏳️‍⚧️

One of the things we’re most proud of at Maitri is our Gender Affirmation Care program. We offer post-surgical care for low-income trans community members: private rooms, 24-hour nursing, mental health support, meals, and compassionate care.

We’re also growing. The Maitri Affirmation Center is expanding so we can reach more people who need it. And if this work resonates with you, sharing this post goes a long way. 🦋

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! To get into the spirit, our clients feasted on a traditional Irish meal while listening to upbeat Irish dance music! From corned beef to Irish beef soup, our kitchen staff made sure there was something for everyone to enjoy!

Movement is essential, but can be discouraging for our clients whose health has created limitations. So we were ECSTATIC to see such a great turnout for this week's Movement Group! Led by our Director of Nursing, clients gathered to learn new stretches tailored to their individual abilities.

A long-time volunteer, friend, and game master, Bob dedicated 27 years of volunteer service to the Maitri community.

After years of saving and planning for her gender-affirmation surgery, Amber was told by her doctor that she needed a safe place to recover after her surgery, or she would not be approved. A dilemma we at Maitri are all too familiar with.

Amber's Primary Care Physician referred her to our Maitri Affirmation Center. After 5 months of recovery, Amber was not just medically stable, but she had formed friendships with other trans people at our facility, something she never had before. In need of a safe place to live, following Maitri, Amber's social work case manager worked with her to secure a cute spot that was safer and more secure than her last.

Since graduating from Maitri, Amber has become an active participant in our BRANCH Aftercare Program, never missing a chance to stop by to say hello and join in a meal, calling Maitri "a source of peace when things too crazy".
