***Last time, a guy brought his grandma and caregiver & she jammed with us from the edge of the pavement & the beach! It was so sweet!

Black History Month Spotlight: Elvin Jones!

As we honor Black History Month, we’re celebrating the legacy of Elvin Jones, a jazz master who showed the world that the drum is more than an instrument — it’s a voice!

Elvin’s playing was like a conversation: deep listening, call-and-response, layers of rhythm, shades & colors speaking to one another in real time. This way of playing lives on today in Ocean drum circles, where we don’t just keep time — we connect, communicate, and create together!

This past Tuesday, we had the honor of facilitating an Ocean Drum Circle with LWHS students during their MLK Jr. Teach-In.

Outdoors, in rhythm, students practiced listening, cooperation, and shared responsibility—living Dr. King’s vision of Beloved Community in real time.

Grateful to schools exploring justice, healing, and connection not just through discussion, but through experience.
