Dr. Devasahayam Jesudas (D J) Christopher is a pulmonary physician with a keen interest in patient care, teaching, and research. His major area of research is Tuberculosis; he also conducts research in Asthma & Allergy, COPD & ILD. He is currently the Chair of the Scientific Advisory Committee at the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) for the National Institute for Research in TB. He is the Principal Investigator for the ICMR Collaborating Centre for Excellence in TB research at the Christian Medical College (CMC) in Vellore. He is the Director of the World Allergy Organization Centre for Excellence in Pulmonary Medicine at CMC Vellore. Additionally, he is the Research Chair for the Indian Chest Society and Course Director for TB-related courses. He has over 300 peer-reviewed publications to his credit."

More Than Meets the Eye: Understanding Ocular Tuberculosis

This webinar provided public health clinicians with a focused overview of ocular tuberculosis, a rare but severe manifestation of TB. Participants gained skills in diagnosing and managing ocular TB using evidence-based approaches, and learned to recognize treatment-related complications that may impact vision. The training emphasized the critical role of clinical and public health nursing case management in ensuring treatment adherence, monitoring for adverse effects, and supporting patients throughout their care journey. Strategies for preventing transmission, coordinating care across disciplines, and improving outcomes for both patients and communities were also highlighted.

This webinar is part of a collaborative Nurse Education Series. The 4 Tuberculosis Centers of Excellence for Training, Education, and Medical Consultation (TB COEs) and Heartland National TB Center (HNTC) have partnered with the National Tuberculosis Nursing Coalition (NTNC) to offer a tuberculosis nurse case conference series.

Description:
Taking side effects seriously – an interactive and evidence-based webinar series will highlight various TB treatment-associated adverse effects and provide management strategies to effectively reduce barriers to treatment completion and support both patients and clinicians. This first session will cover the risks, impacts, and management of TB treatment-associated nausea and vomiting. Data and expertise from other medical fields, including cancer chemotherapy and post-operative care, will be included to provide insights into how to improve care for patients with TB.

Target Audience:
This training is intended for physicians, nurses, and other licensed medical and public health professionals who provide care to patients in treatment for LTBI and active TB.

Credit:
This training is approved for up to 1.50 continuing education hours.

Description: This post graduate course provides an opportunity to explore the complexities of large-scale tuberculosis (TB) contact investigations through real-life cases. Participants will gain insights into the decision-making process and key considerations when TB exposures occur in congregate settings. The course will also highlight the importance of community partnerships, how to effectively use whole genome sequencing to support activities, and the multidisciplinary coordination required to conduct high quality investigations.
