We go through good, bad, intense, big moments, and emotions... and coping is our response to those. Scrolling on your phone, listening to music, smoking, drinking, talking to friends—they’re all forms of coping. Some are more effective and helping us move through difficult feelings than others. Some may result in a situation becoming more intense. But whatever methods you choose, or don’t choose, is completely up to you. ⠀

4 slides with beige background and green and pink text. Slide one is, Coping quick tips. Slide two is, what works for someone else, doesn’t have to work for you - and vice versa. With an illustration of two pink circles, one is shaded in. Slide three is, we all have our go-to’s with coping, the things we immediately do. It’s also great to try new stuff occasionally. It might take a minute to build that new habit, but if you’re not thrilled with your typical responses, maybe try something different. Slide four, no coping is moral or immoral.

Holidays bring on a multitude of emotions for us. Remember that you have permission to set boundaries. You get to leave when you want, you can eat and drink what you want, and you can not go if you want. ⠀

AND, being able to set boundaries is a privilege. It can be complicated by systemic factors. Understanding the pros/cons of setting boundaries in your individual situation is important. ⠀

Although we all deserve to be able to set boundaries in ways that work for us, not all of us feel we can make those choices. Permission to be aware of what works for you can be a great place to start. ⠀

I had an accident with a medicine ball that was surprisingly bouncy and gave myself a concussion. It is an incredibly hard thing for me to do but I am doing a sensory shut down and staying in bed.🛏

I co-authored this book in 2018 to empower people to become their own behaviorists. A way to get skills into their pockets to help themselves, because not everyone has access to quality therapy.

Working with DBT in eating disorders made me realized how all of us can use DBT skills to live the life we want.
