You should only nap in your contact lenses when you are wearing continuous (sometimes called extended) wear contact lenses. Made from a material tested and approved for wear whilst sleeping, this lens type should present no issues when napping.
Napping in contact lenses that are not designed for this can decrease the amount of oxygen your cornea (the front surface of your eye) needs to stay healthy. This puts you at greater risk of infections and corneal ulcers.
This is true whether sleeping for a short time or for extended periods.

If you have wondered how it is possible to see in a dark room with little to no light, you have your rod photoreceptors to thank. When the lights turn off, you might notice it takes a little time for your vision to adjust. That is because these rod receptors are “bleached out” from the light source that was just shut off, and it takes time for them to regenerate their rhodopsin pigments.
This process, called dark adaptation, happens at slower rates than its opposite (light adaptation)– because our rod receptors are more sensitive and 15x more plentiful than their counterpart cone cells. During this period of rhodopsin restoration (which sometimes lasts up to an hour), our pupils dilate as wide as possible to let in any available light sources that will improve our vision in the dark.

Your doctor will review your medical history and conduct a comprehensive eye examination. He or she may perform several tests, including:
• Measuring intraocular pressure (tonometry)
• Testing for optic nerve damage with a dilated eye examination and imaging tests
• Checking for areas of vision loss (visual field test)
• Measuring corneal thickness (pachymetry)
• Inspecting the drainage angle (gonioscopy)

Wet macular degeneration is a chronic eye disorder that causes blurred vision or a blind spot in your visual field. It's generally caused by abnormal blood vessels that leak fluid or blood into the macula (MAK-u-luh). The macula is the part of the retina responsible for central vision.
Wet macular degeneration is one of two types of age-related macular degeneration. The other type — dry macular degeneration — is more common and less severe. The wet type always begins as the dry type.
Early detection and treatment of wet macular degeneration may help reduce vision loss and, in some instances, recover vision.

Mother's Day in the United States is an annual holiday celebrated on the second Sunday in May. Mother's Day recognizes mothers, motherhood, and maternal bonds in general, as well as the positive contributions that they make to society. It was established by Anna Jarvis, with the first official Mother's Day celebrated through a service of worship at St. Andrew's Methodist Church in Grafton, West Virginia, on May 10, 1908. Popular observances include holiday cards and gift-giving, churchgoing often accompanied by the distribution of carnations, and family dinners.

Did you know this?
Your eye is the fastest reacting muscle in your body.
It contracts in less than 1/100th of a second. The eye muscles collaboratively carry out a total of seven corresponding movements that allow you to trail moving objects.

Basal cell carcinoma: Is the most common type of cancer that develops on the eyelid.
Squamous cell carcinoma: This is less common than basal cell carcinoma, but it spreads more aggressively.
Sebaceous carcinoma: Looks similar to a chalazion or blepharitis and often occurs in older adults. This type of cancer aggressively metastasizes to other organs of the body.
Melanoma: This is a rare pigmented eyelid tumor. These tumors are aggressive and often metastasize to the lungs and liver, even if they’re small.

Artificial tears are eye drops used to lubricate dry eyes and help maintain moisture on the outer surface of your eyes. Such eyedrops may be used to treat dry eyes that result from aging, certain medications, a medical condition, eye surgery, or environmental factors, such as smoky or windy conditions.
There are two categories of artificial tears:
• Eyedrops with preservatives. This type often comes in multidose bottles and contains chemicals (preservatives) that discourage the growth of bacteria once the bottle has been opened. The preservatives may irritate your eyes, especially if you have moderate or severe dry eyes.
• Preservative-free eyedrops. This type has fewer additives and is generally recommended if you apply artificial tears more than four times a day, or if you have moderate or severe dry eyes. Preservative-free eyedrops may come in single-dose vials.

Whether eye dilation during an exam is necessary depends on the reason for your exam, your age, your overall health, and your risk of eye diseases.
The eye drops used for dilation cause your pupils to widen, allowing in more light and giving your doctor a better view of the back of your eye. Eye dilation assists your doctor in diagnosing common diseases and conditions, possibly at their earliest stages. They include:
• Diabetes
• High blood pressure
• Macular degeneration
• Retinal detachment
• Glaucoma
