As Thanksgiving approaches, we’re feeling extra grateful for the incredible students who inspire us every day. 🍁🦃🍂

This month’s shines on a dedicated 2nd-year at Arizona College of Podiatric Medicine, Vivian Balasu, who shares what excites her most about and how this calling to serve others is shaping her career in :

"My conviction to become a podiatrist is rooted not only in a fascination with the complex interplay of vascular, lymphatic, dermatological, musculoskeletal, and even oncological systems within the lower limb—but also in a deep sense of purpose. The foot is a remarkable structure, essential to independence, dignity, and daily life, yet so often overlooked in both medicine and society. To care for it is to restore mobility, relieve chronic pain, detect early signs of systemic disease, and offer dignity to those who may feel forgotten."

“As a first-generation student within my family… I harbor a love for pediatrics, stemming from my previous work as a medical assistant but also from my younger brother who is special needs and has cancer… My goal is to be a physician that gives back to the rural and underserved communities along with children, as I have seen the disparity among these groups and within my own Hispanic family and community.”

Congratulations to Lauren for being awarded the APMSA Travel Grant in July. Lauren recently attended the American College of Foot and Ankle Pediatrics' 10th Annual International Pediatric Foot & Ankle Seminar.
