The County and partners celebrated the groundbreaking Friday for Arcade, a new affordable housing community that will create 191 apartments at the intersection of Kooser and Blossom Hill roads in South San José.

The County provided $2 million in funding for the project, including $1 million from the $950 million Measure A Affordable Housing Bond, which was approved by county voters in 2016.

Now in its ninth year of implementation, the affordable housing bond is on track to fund 6,600 units of housing, far exceeding the County’s original goal of 4,800 units. With the help of bond proceeds, the County has funded 65 new rental communities, including 39 in San José.

“We’ve now created a new pathway for people at risk of becoming homeless into permanent housing, and none of that would be possible if not for the 2016 Measure A Affordable Housing bond,” said Deputy County Executive Consuelo Hernandez.
