Hollie McNish’s “Nobody Told Me” is a raw, honest collection that resonates deeply with so many of my postpartum clients. Every week, I sit down with clients to hear about their last birth experiences. I hear about the trauma they’ve faced, the violations of their bodily autonomy, and the constant excuse of “hospital policy” used to push decisions. Too often, fear is used to force their hand, even when the real risks are minimal or nonexistent.
Labor and birth are unpredictable. Harm and risk can occur both in and out of a hospital setting because 100% safety can never be guaranteed. However, understanding your true risks is possible, and you should have access to all the tools to explore every option before going down a path that can forever alter your mind, body, and soul.
Let’s empower ourselves with knowledge, question the norms, and reclaim our birth experiences. 💪✨
