How did I spend Women's History Month?
By educating and spending time with women who are making History!

The first female firefighter in the US to be paid was in 1974. Women in the fire service have advanced leaps and bounds since then and hold over 22000 fire chief positions.

Women's Fire Alliance
is a trailblazing non-profit organization that supports and empowers women in all aspects of fire service and promotes an equitable work environment.

There's no other organization I'd want to volunteer my time and expertise to during this month. Their annual wellness workshop is an amazing day for all active and hopeful female firefighters to educate, empower and uplift themselves in the presence of other strong women.

So glad we have to go through people who read off scripts and mispronounce medications making sure we are practicing medicine correctly. I mean my years of medical school, internship, residency, fellowship and running a private practice of thousands of patients pales in comparison to an entry-level insurance company rep following a flow chart.
Such a good use of our time and key to superior patient care.
Right?!

Breast cancer awareness month is a great time to discuss the changes we can see on the skin with breast cancer before and after treatment.

Part 1 will be the changes on the skin that can alert you to underlying breast cancer.

Follow for Part 2, where I will go over how to care for your skin after radiation, chemotherapy and/or immunotherapy.

One of the major sources of our healthcare decline is private equity. Without dismantling PE entanglement, we will never be able to fix our healthcare in this country.
Universal healthcare is the ultimate goal. Until then, find the independent practices and support them.
I will never sell to PE, and I hope my colleagues resist the temptation to do so as well.

Generational trauma…

My entire grandmother’s family was slaughtered in front of her at a young age all because they were “othered”. She was spared because she was seen as an oddity with red hair and blue eyes in a sea of more traditional Armenian traits.

Her harrowing journey to this country and the heartbreak she endured has always been in my heart and soul despite not knowing every single detail.

Her unwavering love and compassion for others despite her brutal treatment was my foundation growing up. It may be one of the reasons why I see it as my duty as a physician to fight for those who need help. My duty to fight for what is right despite the consequences.

Every day I wonder if she would be proud of me…if I live up to her standards of being a good human.

I reread her memoirs, written by my beloved late Aunt, every so often to keep me grounded and appreciative of what I have and who I fight for.
