Who helps you persevere in hard times? We all should all have people we can count on when things get difficult.

Meet Daoud, a 22-year-old aspiring chef learning to navigate adulthood at SF State University. Through Supported Decision-Making, he’s building independence, confidence, and the freedom to make his own choices with a trusted team by his side.

We all make decisions with support and help from our loved ones. But for people with disabilities sometimes that support comes at the cost of their independence.

Supported Decision-Making is about choosing people you trust to help you think things through, understand your options, and back you up.

We’re so excited to share a full site of new resources with you to practice Supported Decision-Making. Dive in: yourdecisionmatters.org

As a parent, it’s important to remember that support doesn’t mean taking over. It means helping your child build the skills and confidence they need to make choices for themselves.

Supported Decision-Making offers tools to provide the guidance, trust, and patience your child needs to grow. Independence doesn’t mean doing it alone. Instead, it means knowing you have people who believe in you.

No one is expected to make decisions alone. When facing something big, you talk it through with your team. And your team is all of the people you trust to listen, explain, and help you think things through.

You’re still the one deciding – you just don’t have to do it by yourself. Learn more about Supported Decision-Making and find resources and tools to start practicing it today: yourdecisionmatters.org
