Today, we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
His vision of a Beloved Community inspires our work each day at CHRISTUS Health.
As this year’s theme reminds us, Mission Possible II: Building Community, Uniting a Nation the Nonviolent Way, Dr. King’s message is more than history. It’s a call to action. May we continue to extend the healing ministry of Jesus Christ by choosing love, pursuing justice and lifting one another up.

Wishing everyone a meaningful and reflective MLK Jr. Day.

Our women's services department first met Averee when she was just 13 weeks pregnant. From the very beginning, her strength and resilience stood out. At 20, she has faced more challenges than most women her age, but through it all, she never gave up.
Each year, the department comes together to support a deserving family. This year, that family was Averee's. Last week, she welcomed her first baby. As she heads home, she’s doing so with a new stroller and car seat, along with baby clothes, wipes, diapers, and so much love from our team.
We’re so proud to have been part of her journey and are grateful to her provider, Dr. Hamilton, for joining us in celebrating this special moment alongside her.

Join us on April 10 for the Stars of Texas Gala, honoring the bravery and dedication of local first responders. This elegant night will feature live entertainment, a silent auction and more! 100% of the funds raised will stay local, directly impacting our hospital.

“This year’s gala will raise funds for advanced surgical equipment and technology—critical tools that enhance our ability to improve patient outcomes and ensure our patients receive the highest level of care as we continue to grow our surgical service offerings,” said Bob Honeycutt, president of CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital – San Marcos. “We’re honored to celebrate the courage, commitment and sacrifice of our first responders, including firefighters, law enforcement, EMS and 911 personnel, whose service is vital to the health and safety of our community.”

Good luck to Texas State Athletics as they take the field in the 2026 Armed Forces Bowl! 🏈

For the past year and a half, we’ve been proud to stand alongside Bobcat Athletics as the official healthcare sponsor, supporting the health, safety, and performance of these incredible student-athletes. From preseason preparation to game-day care, our partnership has been centered on keeping Bobcats strong, resilient, and ready to compete.

A special thank you to Aidan Pool, Director of Sports Medicine, for her leadership and collaboration in delivering exceptional care to Texas State athletes. Together, we’ve been able to make a meaningful impact on and off the field.

We’re cheering you on, Bobcats—go make us proud! 💪🐾

When Dr. Brannon Hyde noticed Dean Campbell’s heart efficiency had declined, he suspected stress from a ruptured esophagus in 2022 as a contributing factor. In May, Dr. Hyde replaced Dean's heart valve.

Following his surgery, Dean completed outpatient cardiac rehab with us and later graduated from our Phase Two program, which he described as an encouraging and motivating experience.

“They were very nice,” Dean said. “I’ve been through some rehabs before, but this was just really great. I started off really anxious about it, a little bit intimidated, but as time went on, I got to where I could tell it was helping, and I was looking forward.”

Dean is especially grateful to Elizabeth, Catherine, and Jasmine, who he said were “super great” throughout his recovery.

With his wife as his rock and the rehab team’s support, Dean is doing more of the activities he used to struggle with. Today, he advises others starting rehab to go in with an open mind.

For six years, President and CEO of the San Marcos Area Chamber of Commerce Page Michel lived with atrial fibrillation (AFib). Although she managed it with two medications, they came with notorious side effects.

Over the course of several months, her condition worsened with daily heart palpitations and a general sense of feeling unwell. A chance meeting with Director of Clinical Operations at CHRISTUS Trinity Clinics Kathleen Chomel at a one-year anniversary event connected her with the right specialists. Page met with Cardiologist Dr. Michael Benca, who referred her to Electrophysiologist Dr. Gilad Birnbaum.

After a series of tests, Dr. Birnbaum recommended a cardiac ablation, a non-invasive procedure that uses heat or cold to create small scars in the heart to restore a normal rhythm. Although Page felt anxious about the procedure, she says our care team gave her the clarity and confidence she needed.

She praises Clint for helping her prepare for every step of the process and Tasha for her warmth and attentiveness, which turned her experience into a positive one. Within days, Page was back at work. Today, she’s grateful to finally be off her medications and now looks ahead with renewed energy and appreciation for the care that helped her reclaim her health.

When former Texas State head football coach David Bailiff needed health care, he knew exactly where to go.

“Everyone was so professional, so friendly, and constantly communicating with us. It really took the anxiety away as a parent. If there are six stars, they deserve six. If there are ten, they deserve ten.”

Coach Bailiff has deep ties to San Marcos and says the hospital’s commitment to excellence is clear the moment you walk in. From advanced imaging technology to compassionate and excellent leadership, CHRISTUS Health is proud to be here for our community.
