From heartfelt to hilarious, every ornament on our lobby Christmas tree tells a story of the teams that make our ministry so special. We love our tradition of each department creating a one-of-a-kind ornament to hang!

After suffering a heart attack, Lynda Vogel was taken to our hospital, where she underwent a catheter procedure with Dr. James Smith. She was later referred to our cardiac rehab outpatient program. Over the next 18 weeks, Lynda met her goals and learned how to prioritize her health through the education our program offered.

“They taught me a lot and gave me the tools to continue,” Lynda said. “The people there each brought a unique and individual asset to the program. I felt very accomplished.”

When Lynn Baumeister went for her routine mammogram at our Women’s Clinic, she never imagined what would follow. In 2019, she was advised to have a sonogram, and soon after, Breast Care Patient Navigator Rita Longoria helped schedule an appointment with a surgeon. Lynn recalls feeling stunned when she learned something was wrong, and a biopsy confirmed breast cancer, though she was told it was the best kind a woman can get. Within 45 days of her diagnosis, she had surgery and later completed radiation. Today, Lynn feels fortunate and continues her annual mammograms at our clinic, praising our team and Rita for their positivity and commitment to her comfort. She said she values having expert care close to home and wouldn’t want to go anywhere else.

Our annual Christmas Tree Lighting marked the beginning of the holiday season. We commemorated the occasion with a combination of scripture and song, including a performance by the New Braunfels Christian Academy Choir. Following tradition, each department made an ornament symbolic of their department to hang on the tree.

After years of heart symptoms, Lisa Lloyd finally took action when severe palpitations sent her to our ER. With the help of Dr. Gil Birnbaum and the new electrophysiology lab, funded by a generous donation from Gloria Ingram and the Ingram Family, Lisa underwent a heart ablation and felt immediate relief.

"From the doctors in the emergency room, to the nurses who were by my side when I woke up from surgery, every Associate I encountered was kind and helped me feel at ease," said Lisa. "I'm thankful everyone was so communicative and helpful through my experience."

Preventing injuries is not just about avoiding pain; it's about protecting your quality of life. According to the National Safety Council, preventable injuries are the fourth-leading cause of death in the U.S. From slips and falls to improper lifting techniques, many of these incidents can be avoided with greater awareness and simple safety measures. Tips on staying safe at home and work include keeping walkways clear of clutter, using non-slip mats in bathrooms, ensuring adequate lighting in stairways and hallways, using proper lifting techniques, and taking regular breaks to avoid fatigue in physically demanding jobs.
