Last week my husband and I took a short trip to the historically rich town of New Orleans for his birthday. The entire town felt like a step back in time as we walked the cobble stone sidewalks anywhere we needed to go.
🌿
My favorite thing was our trip to the pharmacy museum. The whole of it, Cody says greatly resembles my work spaces at home.
🌿
A look into a 1800s pharmacy, when pharmacist were really just well trained herbalist.
~It definitely had a darkness to the history that I learned more about, as most of us know of the old world medical practice.
~But, my bright eyes were mostly focused on taking in the old tools and methods they would use for herbal medicine, many of which I still see in the traditional practice of herbalism today.
~I loved the historic soda fountain, where people use to gather for medicinally rich drinks, the times before soda just became a sugary health draining beverage.
~The humble and wholesome display of a midwife’s bag, and the curious displays of traveling medicine bags really caught my eye.
~ & seeing that pharmacist (aka the towns herbalist) crafted the cosmetics and natural pigments for the town as well. Again, something you see still today with those called to the herbal path of crafting with plants.

Tradition, and finding those common lines we share with the past always fascinated me and draws me in. Though, I am even more grateful now for the modern comforts of today like for my high powered vitamix, easy access to sterilization of my tools, and today’s great research of herbal safety.
