Horton House

Horton House Horton House is a sober living house committed to providing a safe & comfortable environment for our members to live drug and alcohol free.

About

Horton House sober living is committed to providing a safe and comfortable environment for our members to begin (or continue) a life free from drugs and alcohol. Horton House is a family environment, which provides structure, accountability and support. Especially critical to early sobriety is the support that is given and received by each housemate. It helps to come home to other people in recovery at the end of the day. It is comforting to be around others that are going through the same situations you are. It is important to have a sense of recovery "family". This sense of "family" will help to teach you how to communicate and cooperate with others, in a safe environment, so that each member can transition into a "normal" life. We hope that you will choose Horton House and get to experience a sense of family and fellowship. We strive to make Horton House a great place to begin the road to recovery. Come join our family! Wow. Just WOW! Mission Able is a faith-based organization here in San Marcos that helps people fix/clean up/haul off any and everything to make your home more livable.

“Mission Able” was over at Horton House last week. They had about (70) kiddos descend on us (during their Spring Break, mind you) last Monday - Wednesday. They cleaned out the barn, cut down dead trees/limbs, hauled off a TON of trash and were just amazing!

Me, my husband, Kyle, and our son, Zach, (who is the House Manager) were blown away by Mission Able and all their volunteers. These kids spent their Spring Break working HARD! And, that’s after most of them drove a loooong way to get here. Some kids (I mean young adults 😊) came from as far away as Oklahoma!

Their fearless leader, Doug, (who was amazing in his own right), then spent hours after the kids left driving trailers to Green Guy or the dump, to finish out what the kids had started.

There is no way that we can properly show our appreciation for the work this group did - but we are gonna try.

From the bottom of our hearts, to each and every one of you that helped turn Horton House around - and make it a comfortable, nice place that our guys can come home to at the end of sometimes very rough days, thank you, thank you, thank you! You are truly doing God’s work.

Our cups runneth over! ❤️

Capital Area Finance Corporation has done it again! When Horton House needed help renovating an unlivable space to make room for two more guys, trying to better their lives in recovery, Capital Area Finance Corporation came through in our time of need - again!

Thank you, Dr. Michelle Cohen, for being our advocate and guardian angel.

We cannot adequately express our appreciation to Dr. Cohen and Capital Area Finance Corporation for your support in helping our guys start/continue their road to recovery by providing a “safe harbor” for them to come home to each day. These gentlemen may have many obstacles in their lives, but having a nice place to live is not one of them! Thank you. Thank you. Thank you! ❤️

Happy Tuesday Everyone! We are in need of an electric stove for one of our houses. If anyone has a working electric stove, just let us know. We will be happy to come pick up. Thanks!

This is me and my brother, Larry Horton. Growing up he was my protector, confidant, partner-in-crime and best friend.

He drank himself to death at 52 years-old - leaving behind two 12 year-old sons.

Me and my husband started Horton House (named in Larry’s honor) in 2016 in the hopes we could help other families not have to go through what we went through.

Today is the 9 year anniversary of Larry’s death.

Sad, yet I think Larry is looking down on us and smiling. Horton House has helped hundreds of guys get back on the path to sobriety, finish undergrad and start graduate programs, get jobs, create friends for life, reunite with family members, become a part of their kiddos lives…

I miss you every day, Larry. But know that you taught me one more lesson and inspired me one more time.

I miss you always - and love you forever. ❤️

After the huge storm last May, all (3) roofs at Horton House needed to be replaced. Insurance, believe or not, were no help and said we would not receive any money to help in replacing the roof.

We starting looking towards members in the community for help - and were humbled by the response. ❤️🌍❤️

Dr. Michelle Cohen, on behalf of Capital Area Finance Corporation, presented Horton House with a donation of $50K - enough to replace the roofs on all three houses!

Our gratitude and appreciation to them is more than we can possibly express. That our thirty guys living at Horton House will have a safe and dry place to live, and continue on their road to recovery, is more amazing and humbling than we ever hoped was possible. Our cup runneth over. 🙏 ❤️🙏

It’s always sad (for us) when we have a tenant that moves on - but sooo happy (for them) that they have grown and matured and are ready to move on to the next chapter in their lives!

Every once in a while, I’ll have a client call me when they are moving out to say “Thanks!” It’s not expected or necessary. But, it certainly brings a tear to my eye - every time.

They remind me of why me and my wonderful, amazing staff do what we do - and give me such hope and optimism!

To all those struggling right now, I just want to tell you - you got this! You are strong. There are people that love and care for you. So, love yourself and believe in your self!

You. Are. Worthy. ♥️

Horton House will be serving Thanksgiving plates this year for our residents who are not joining their family this year. Operation Turkey is donating 60 plates for our residents. The plates do consist of real turkey, mashed potatoes, corn, roll and pie. We should be passing the plates out around 10-11 am.
