Beacon House The Beacon House Association of San Pedro is a long-term substance abuse recovery center You can learn more at www.thebeaconhouse.org.

The Beacon House Association of San Pedro is a state-certified, residential substance abuse recovery program for men with a sincere desire to achieve long-lasting abstinence from drugs and alcohol. As residents of the Beacon House, the men are provided with food, shelter, counseling, peer group support, educational opportunities and career training through social enterprise programs, including a Thrift Shop. This allows the men to develop the life, career and social skills they need to build a foundation in recovery, while preparing them for a strong reintegration into the job market and a bright future when they return to their family, home and community. Recently named one of the best addiction treatment centers in the United States by Newsweek Magazine, men from 39 states across the country have received treatment at Beacon House. The organization has grown over the past 50 years to encompass a full city block in San Pedro, California, adjacent to the Port of Los Angeles, including six residential facilities with the capacity to house 110 residents, as well as a kitchen/dining facility. With the support of our donors and the local community, we have helped thousands of men get a second chance at life and regain their place as responsible, productive members of society.

This past weekend, the men of Beacon House were honored to help set up for the Spring Willenberg Dress Giveaway, an event hosted by Maria’s Closet.

Maria's Closet is a local nonprofit serving young women across the Los Angeles area by providing free dresses and all the details that make school dances so special for those who may not otherwise have the opportunity. Their work creates unforgettable memories that these women will hold onto for life.

Our men arrived early and got to work building dressing rooms, loading racks with hundreds of dresses, and helping however they could. There’s something about doing the behind the scenes work and knowing your effort is helping create a beautiful experience for someone else. It just feels good.

Thank you to Maria’s Closet for inviting us to be part of this special event. We are grateful for the opportunity and are already looking forward to next year!

Sam arrived at Beacon House with a tough exterior, built over years of being hurt and hurting others. He began drinking early in life, and his choices while intoxicated eventually led to a twelve-year prison term. While incarcerated, his remaining family members passed away, leaving him completely alone. He tried many times to get sober, with some success, but nothing seemed to last.

At Beacon House, Sam experienced a profound transformation. He found acceptance in a community of men committed to a path with real purpose. Over time, his walls came down, and he began working through the pain of his past to build a future in recovery.

Today, Sam leans on meaningful relationships and is intentional about growing spiritually each day. His future is full of possibility, whether pursuing a career as a commercial truck driver or exploring work in social services. He moves forward with faith, trusting that things are unfolding as they’re meant to.

Recently, the Bartlett Center was filled with excitement as the men caught the latest round of UFC fights together.

Our men spend each day committed to growth, and nights like these offer them a chance to unwind and just have fun. For those who preferred something different, the video game room stayed busy throughout the night, while others spent time laughing and playing the guitar together outside.

It was a great night that brought everyone together and strengthened the friendships that make this community so special.

The 9th Annual Beacon House Golf Tournament is quickly approaching, and we’re excited to bring our Beacon House family together once again to help raise funds to support our important mission of helping men recover from alcoholism and addiction.

For those who may not golf but still want to make an impact, a Golf Angel Donation is a meaningful way to show your support. Every dollar donated is tax-deductible and helps ensure that Beacon House can continue to provide our life-saving services to our men free of charge.

Blair is one of our men who recently completed the Los Angeles Marathon. Only sixteen months ago he was stuck in a cycle of addiction and couldn’t follow through on any of the commitments he made to his family or himself.

In recovery, Blair reconnected with his love for running, an activity that he hadn’t pursued since high school. Through his involvement with Strides in Recovery, he eventually began training to run his first marathon, a huge commitment that never would have been possible before.

We are so proud of Blair and can't wait to see what he does next!

Several of our men recently attended the 2026 River’s Edge Ranch Gala. It was an evening filled with inspiring stories of transformation and faith.

The River’s Edge Ranch is dedicated to helping men reclaim their lives through a faith-based program designed to support lasting recovery. The event brought together a huge group of supporters committed to making sure this important mission continues to grow.

Thank you to The River's Edge Ranch for the invitation and for your commitment to helping so many men change their lives.

His whole life, Jeremiah felt like he wasn’t good enough, so he became willing to do whatever it took to be accepted by his peers. What started as social drinking eventually became a full-blown he**in addiction. After years of struggling with his addiction, having a daughter was the motivator he needed to finally ask for help.

At Beacon House he discovered a freedom he didn’t know was possible. The men in the program taught him the importance of humility, faith, and of taking personal responsibility for his behavior.

Today he owns Starlit Auto, a successful custom automotive shop, is engaged to a woman who shares his faith, and is the father his daughter deserves. Nearly nine years later, he remains active in church and recovery, often returning to Beacon House to encourage others and show that real change is possible.

Ten of our men just crossed the finish line at the 2026 Los Angeles Marathon!

This year’s unseasonable heat forced many runners to stop early, but our men kept moving forward and made it all the way to the finish line. It’s hard to believe that just a year or two ago, these men had a hard time finishing anything because of their addiction.

Moments like these change lives. They create resilience that our men can carry with them as they continue their journey. When life gets tough, they'll remember what it took to complete those 26.2 miles.

A huge shout-out to our incredible coaches at Strides in Recovery. This was only possible because of your guidance, instruction, and dedication to our men.

Beacon House recently welcomed Said, owner of Jason Patrick Hair, a salon in Redondo Beach, who contacted us looking for an opportunity to give back.

As a San Pedro resident himself, Said offered his time and talent to provide nearly 15 of our men with free, professional haircuts. A fresh haircut may seem simple, but it can make a big difference in a man’s confidence.

In recovery, we learn that giving of ourselves is what fulfills us. It was nice to see that principle in action from someone in the community.

Thank you, Said, for supporting the men of Beacon House.

A group of our men recently tackled a hiking trail in the Santa Monica Mountains together. For some of them, it was their first time hiking. The terrain was rugged, and they had to lean on each other for encouragement to keep pushing themselves to the top.

For men who once spent their days in isolation, stuck in addiction, reaching the peak of a mountain that overlooks the Pacific Ocean is an experience they’ll always remember.

The hike was led by one of our outpatient counselors, an avid hiker who knows that recovery is best lived out in nature. After a long day, the men returned home tired, but with a new understanding that they are capable of more than they once thought.

Last year, Shaffer helped us capture photos at the Beacon House Golf Tournament. He had such a great experience that he decided to get more involved this year.

For the men we serve, this tournament is very impactful. It’s a rare opportunity to step onto the course and share their personal stories with our golfers face-to-face.

Aside from raising funds to help us continue our mission of helping men recover from alcoholism and addiction, this event provides our men with hope. It shows them that they aren’t alone in the difficult work of recovery and surrounds them with a community that believes in their future.

Many people believe that addiction only affects certain types of people. A narrative that is often presented in the media is that these are problems that are limited to the poor or uneducated. But the truth is, addiction doesn’t care about race, income, or where someone lives. It impacts people from every background.

According to the World Health Organization, an estimated 400 million people struggle with drug and alcohol use disorders. This is not a selective issue; it’s a global one. Addiction can start anywhere, but what’s important is that we don’t let our misconceptions about it prevent people from getting the help they need.
