As a member of Elder Care Alliance, AlmaVia of San Rafael is dedicated to providing care services to AlmaVia of San Rafael opened its doors in May of 2006.

AlmaVia of San Rafael, situated in the heart of beautiful Marin County, is a lovely and vibrant community that provides assisted living as well as memory care. AlmaVia is the place to consider for those who believe in the possibilities of a wonderful life, at all stages of life! We offer a regular venue for talented instructors, musicians and entertainers of all kinds, and residents always have a variety of daily programs to choose from. Our restaurant-style dining room offers delicious meals in a lively social setting. Our attractive building, with its award-winning "Craftsman-style" architectural design, beautifully showcases our 100-year-long tradition of caring and support services to elders and their families. A non-profit, faith-based community respecting the diversity of all traditions, AlmaVia was created through a unique collaboration among Elder Care Alliance, Faith Lutheran Church, and the Sierra Pacific Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. We are a non-denominational community open to all faiths.

When the weather turned gloomy, residents at AlmaVia of San Rafael brought the bowling alley indoors! The pins were set, the competition was fierce, and the cheering could be heard down the hallway.

Indoor bowling is more than just a good time. For older adults, activities like this help maintain balance, coordination, and a gentle range of motion—all while having a fun time with their friends. It's exercise disguised as fun, and the residents are always ready to roll. Rain or shine, there's never a dull moment at AlmaVia.

Bridgehaven memory care neighborhood residents got creative with a heartwarming family tree craft to celebrate Thanksgiving! 🌳🍂❤️ As branches took shape and family names filled the leaves, something magical happened—stories began to flow. Residents shared treasured Thanksgiving traditions, making connections and reminiscing—precisely what this season is all about.

Creative activities like this do so much more than fill an afternoon. For older adults, art projects help maintain fine motor skills, spark meaningful conversations, and provide an excellent opportunity to celebrate the people who matter most.

We love it when the kids from the Mark Day School visit. Together, we created some adorable fall-themed crafts. 🍂🎨🍂🎨🍂

The residents lit up the moment these kiddos walked through the door, and honestly, the kids had just as much fun learning from their new senior friends.

These visits happen every month, and the community looks forward to them every single time. When older adults spend time with the younger generation, it boosts their mood and keeps their minds sharp and engaged. Plus, activities like crafting together promote cognitive stimulation and create meaningful memories that stick with people long after the glue dries.

🍾 AlmaVia of San Rafael residents enjoy a scenic drive through wine country and some tastings! 🥂

They recently took a lovely hour-long journey north to the beautiful Korbel Champagne Cellars, and the views alone were worth the trip.

Once they arrived, it was time to celebrate with a sophisticated champagne flight, living their best lives as they sipped, savored, and swapped stories about their favorite bubbly. After all that tasting, they headed to the deli for a delicious lunch that hit the spot perfectly.

🇺🇸 Happy Veteran's Day to all of the amazing veterans at AlmaVia of San Rafael!

This week was unforgettable as the community celebrated the brave men and women who've served our country. We had the honor of hosting a local Cub Scout troop who presented certificates, led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance, and performed a beautiful flag ceremony.

The real highlight was when WWII veteran resident, Chuck, a former platoon officer, stepped up to lead the boys in a military walk. These scouts had never done it before, but under Chuck's guidance, they nailed it! 🎖️

Chuck said afterward, "I've been waiting to do that for 80 years!" At 102 years young (and celebrating his birthday THIS Friday, November 14!), Chuck reminded everyone that it's never too late for meaningful moments and new memories.

Whether it's the thrill of gaming or simply enjoying time with their AlmaVia family in a vibrant setting, these experiences remind everyone that life's best moments are the ones we share together. It was a packed house at AlmaVia of San Rafael last week when we dove into the fascinating life of Nikola Tesla, one of history's most brilliant inventors. ⚡🧠🔬📚⚡

The energy in the room was electric (pun intended!) as residents explored his incredible achievements and groundbreaking innovations. From developing air conditioning that keeps us cool to the Tesla coil, advancing x-ray technology, and pioneering remote control devices, residents were amazed to discover how many everyday conveniences he impacted.

Educational sessions like this are fantastic brain food for residents. Learning about historical figures, scientific discoveries, and technological innovations stimulates cognitive function, encourages critical thinking, and keeps minds actively engaged.

It was all about self-care and pampering at AlmaVia of San Rafael! 💅💕🌺👐💖

Some of the residents received a luxurious nail treatment, and what made this session extra special was having Maria, one of the community's talented residents who used to be a professional manicurist, lead the way.

Watching her share her expertise, walk everyone through proper techniques step-by-step, and offer insider tips on achieving salon-quality results at home was wonderful. From filing techniques to cuticle care to the perfect polish application, Maria had everyone hanging on her every word.

The Walking Club of AlmaVia of San Rafael is in full motion – literally! 👟🌞🚶‍♀️🚶‍♂️

This week, the group ventured across the freeway to the beautiful park with the lagoon, and Mother Nature blessed everyone with the perfect weather for their stroll.

Regular walking improves cardiovascular health, strengthens muscles and bones, and helps maintain balance and mobility – all crucial for healthy aging. Walking outdoors also provides mental health benefits, reducing stress and anxiety while boosting mood and energy levels. The social aspect is equally important – having walking buddies creates accountability, makes exercise more enjoyable, and strengthens friendships through shared experiences and conversations.

They chose their pumpkins and picked out their perfect color palettes to paint some masterpieces. Everyone brought their own unique vision to life.

Pumpkin painting is the perfect fall activity that combines artistic expression with wonderful wellness benefits! 🎨 The act of painting helps maintain fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination, while choosing colors and designing patterns provides excellent cognitive stimulation and decision-making practice. There's also something deeply therapeutic about the sensory experience of holding a pumpkin, feeling the brush strokes, and watching your creation come to life. For just a $2 buy-in, everyone's invited to test their luck and show off their best poker face. The friendly competition that breaks out around the poker table is absolutely legendary.

Poker isn't just about the fun (though there's plenty of that!) – it's an incredible brain workout wrapped up in a social activity. The game requires strategic thinking, memory recall, probability calculation, and quick decision-making, all of which help keep cognitive skills sharp. Reading other players, managing cards, and keeping track of bets also exercise both mental and fine motor abilities. Plus, the social interaction and friendly competition boost mood, reduce stress, and create genuine connections between residents. There's something about a little healthy competition that brings out everyone's personality and keeps spirits high!
