As a consultant, coach, and therapist for highly sensitive people, Alane Freund, LMFT, has helped adults, youth, and families focus on solutions through psychotherapy and consultation for over three decades in the mental health field. She holds Masters’ degrees in clinical psychology and school counseling and is the parent of a young adult. Highly sensitive people can get in the habit of being overstimulated, aka overaroused, more often than not. And guess what? Being overstimulated makes focus really challenging. It can even happen that your work or your work environment is what overstimulates you.

You can change this! You can thrive at work. It will take some effort and might make you wonder if it’s worth it, but IT IS. You got this. Changing seasons teach us how healthy transitions work. The last month of summer offers a few tastes of autumn..

Now here we are in the first month of autumn, and while some places are feeling it, many locations are still seeing summer here and there.

We HSPs like to look forward and prepare for transitions, sink deeply into them so we have time and space to process them deeply, and then we have made the transition and it might take a while to get our feet solidly on the ground.

In my equine assisted therapy work, I often talk about how the horses aren’t comfortable with a person until their insides and outsides catch up to each other… until we are in alignment.

Be gentle with your sensitive self. When your insides and outsides are aligned, anxiety melts away, dread can’t take root, and a smile comes to your face as you appreciate the new view and all the opportunity it represents.

Here’s to my favorite season. I’m going to do what I can to stay grounded in the present, embracing evenness and balance, and exercising outside as much as I can.

Highly Sensitive People (HSPs) have tons of empathy, and sometimes that makes us more likely to focus on the linking, or the bonding in a relationship. But what happens when you need to set a boundary or assert yourself in another way. Maybe you would just like to change the topic of conversation.
