Congratulations Jessie Vermeer, our December Employee of the Month!

"We are so happy to have Jessie Vermeer as a part of our SDS team. She is a really hard worker and always has a great attitude! She keeps our unit so clean and organized. Today she was scrubbing the hallway walls, and I can't believe how much better they look! Thank you so much Jessie!”

Yesterday we enjoyed our annual Christmas Cookie Party, complete with a decadent cookie buffet created by our amazing Dietary team and plenty of ugly Christmas sweaters to go around. Huge thank you to the talented bakers who made this tradition so special. We look forward to it every year!

Wishing our staff and community a joyful, cozy holiday season! 💚

Thank you, Sandpoint! We’re incredibly honored to be voted Sandpoint Living Local’s Finest in Health Care for 2025!

From our beginnings in 1949, when the original hospital was floated up Lake Pend Oreille, to the full range of services we offer today, one thing has never changed: our commitment to caring for this community we love.

Being recognized by our friends, neighbors, and families means the world to us.
Thank you for trusting us, supporting us, and allowing us to be part of your lives.

Meet Willa and Her Amazing Human, Lynne, Our New Hospice Therapy Team! 💙🐾

We’re thrilled to introduce Willa, the newest therapy dog at Bonner Community Hospice, alongside her devoted owner, Lynne. This duo brings heart, healing, and a whole lot of gentle kindness to patients and families throughout our community.

Willa’s path to hospice work started at home. After Lynne saw how deeply Willa comforted a beloved family member during a personal end-of-life journey, she knew her dog had a rare gift. That experience lit a spark in Lynne too. She was inspired to pursue therapy dog certification with Willa and bring that same peace and presence to others.

Lynne is no stranger to service. A longtime community member with a warm spirit and a background rooted in compassion, she felt drawn to hospice work long before Willa came along. The two of them now form a naturally intuitive team; Lynne reads the room with quiet tenderness, while Willa brings an easy calm that helps lower stress, ease loneliness, and create moments of connection that words often can’t.

Their arrival marks the return of our Hospice Therapy Dog Program, paused during COVID and now joyfully revived. Modeled after a successful program in Central Oregon, this service offers emotional support, companionship, and comfort to patients in their homes and care facilities.

And they’re just the beginning. With Lynne helping lead the way, we’re growing the program from additional volunteers to future therapy dog teams, like little Poppy, currently in training.

Please help us welcome Lynne and Willa, two bright lights bringing warmth and compassion to some of life’s most tender moments. 🐶💙

Congratulations to Barbara Waterous, our Gem Award Honoree!

This heartfelt nomination was written by Michelle Tucker, our Director of Rehab Services, to thank Barbara for always Going the Extra Mile!

"Barbara is truly the heart of our department. She has been with us for many years and continues to show up every single day with kindness, dedication, and a genuine desire to make a difference. She consistently goes above and beyond—not because she has to, but because she truly cares about the people around her.

Whether it’s a patient needing extra support, a coworker who could use a helping hand, or a problem that needs to be solved, Barbara is the first to step up. She takes initiative, follows through, and makes sure that nothing is left undone. Patients know they can count on her to listen, to care, and to make sure they’re taken care of from start to finish. Her calm, reassuring presence puts everyone at ease, and she treats every person she encounters with warmth and respect.
Barbara also demonstrates quiet leadership among her peers. She’s dependable, organized, and always willing to take on extra work—whether it’s helping manage day-to-day issues, keeping the department running smoothly, or finding solutions when unexpected challenges come up. She does it all with humility and heart, never seeking recognition, just wanting to make things better for the team and for our patients.

Her work ethic, compassion, and genuine love for what she does make her an example to all of us. Barbara embodies what the GEM Award stands for—someone who goes the extra mile, every day, in every way. We are so lucky to have her on our team, and our department is a better place because of her."

Thank you, Barbara, for always Going the Extra Mile!
