Breath!!!
Did you know that one-third of our yoga practice is breath work, and that there are 6 different breathing techniques that you can incorporate into your practice?
Focused Breath: Found when we honor the primary line of energy; letting the belly fill; inhale, pause, exhale (or inhale, exhale); long breath β less of a sound and more of an intention.
Diaphragmatic Breath: Focus/intention on diaphragm; belly expands like a balloon.
Retaining Breath: Diaphragmatic in nature; inhale for certain count, pause for certain count, exhale for certain count (ie: inhale for the count of 5, hold for the count of 5, exhale for the count of 5).
Victorious Breath: Most common in a traditional yoga practice; diaphragmatic and cleansing in nature; produces heat; inhale through your nose, close lips and press tongue to roof of mouth, exhale through nose while opening throat slightly but keeping mouth closed (like you're fogging up a mirror).
Cleansing Breath: "Breath of Fire"; diaphragmatic in nature; inhale then pump abdomen to exhale rapidly with tiny breaks in between (you will feel a pressure in your nostrils).
Alternate Nostril Breath: Use your fingers to alternate the nostrils you're breathing in/out of (similar too using a net pot but with breath).
Have you tried incorporating different breaths into your practice? Do you have a favorite technique to use?
