“When I was 11 my family bicycled the entire pacific coast. During this trip, my mother had a terrible crash. A surgeon saved her life, and a surgeon saved her again years later from breast cancer. These experiences sparked my interest in surgery, especially the treatment of breast cancer.”
Dr. Robbins was the first in her family to go into medicine. She majored in Microbiology at the University of Washington, spent two years researching Salmonella then attended the University of Washington School of Medicine. Here she did cancer research and was accepted into the national medical honor society.
After medical school Dr. Robbins spent five years in surgical residency at the Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU) in Portland. Dr. Robbins explored an interest in minimally invasive surgery and rural surgery.
After training, Dr. Robbins practiced general surgery for two years in Bremerton, WA. Here she partnered with the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance as their primary breast cancer surgeon on the Olympic Peninsula. Her practice in Bremerton also included endoscopy, trauma and emergency general surgery.
