We’re getting ready for Christmas at Open Door! We had a wonderful time visiting Santa, decorating the Christmas tree, and building and decorating gingerbread houses. These festive activities bring so much joy, creativity, and togetherness, and we’re grateful to share this special season with our Open Door community.

We had a wonderful time participating in this year’s Festival of Trees at Classic Cinemas in Sandwich! 🎄
We worked hard on our festive creations, and we are so proud to see our talents on display in the community. Seeing our tree alongside so many others truly made the season feel extra special.

Spreading Christmas cheer and giving out COOKIES during the Sandwich "Merry Little Christmas Walk". Thank you to the Sandwich Area Chamber of Commerce and the Sandwich Park District and all the other local businesses for pulling all of this together! Open Door is grateful for our community and love being able to express our gratitude. Bless you all and Merry Christmas.🎄🎁❤️

All our gift tags have been picked up, but don’t worry! You can still bring cheer to the holidays for the individuals we serve! Here are two ideas:
Visit our website and make a purchase from our WISH LIST. We will wrap your purchase and put it under the tree for an individual we serve here at Open Door.

The Angel Tree is ready for the 2025 Christmas Season!
Be an “Open Door Angel” and make someone’s holiday EXTRA special!
We have client gift wishes posted (our version of an angel tree). Stop by our administration building ANYTIME and grab a coded ornament. Please drop your gifts off no later than Wednesday Dec. 11th.
Look for the large, yellow angel posted on our door at 405 S. Wells St. This is our staff service door at the north-east corner of the building and is accessible 24/7. Use the EXTERIOR door and the gift tags as well as the sign out sheet are posted on the INTERIOR door. Please do not forget to mark which tag you receive so we can keep track.

Halloween spirit was alive and well at Open Door today! Both our East and West Workshops celebrated with costumes, treats, and laughter all around. 🎃 It’s always wonderful to see our consumers enjoying the holiday together — bringing joy, creativity, and connection to every moment. 👻

A Message from Open Door Rehabilitation Center

As many of you have heard, the federal government has announced that SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits will not be paid starting November 1st due to the current government shutdown.
We know this news is deeply concerning for many of the individuals we support — and we want to reassure our families, guardians, and supporters that Open Door will not let anyone we support go hungry. 💙
Through the generosity of our community, our “My Buddy” program will allow us to provide financial assistance to help individuals supplement what they would normally receive through SNAP. While these funds were never originally intended for food costs, your continued donations make it possible for Open Door to step up in this time of need.
We had considered turning to local food pantries for help; however, we anticipate those resources will be overwhelmed by families and children in need. Additionally, many of the foods provided require cooking skills that some of our individuals may not have. For these reasons, we will instead use My Buddy funds to directly assist those affected.
We don’t yet know how long this disruption will last, but Open Door is committed to doing whatever it takes to ensure that no one we support goes hungry.
