Dr. George Shida graduated from the University of Maryland with a B.S. He played football, lettering for three years. Dr. Shida received his Doctor of Optometry degree in 1980 from the University of
Alabama/Medical Center at Birmingham. He began his private practice career in 1981 in the Atlanta area, where he continues to practice. His specialty is family and medical eyecare, pre and post operative surgical care, as well as eyeglasses and contact lenses. Dr. Shida is a member of the American Optometric Association, the Georgia Optometric Association, and the Greater Atlanta Optometric Asssociation. Dr. Shida and his wife Patricia have four children. For leisure he enjoys golf and spending time with his family. Dr. Gemma Patel is an optometrist who is experienced with performing eye examinations in young children, first time contact lens wearers as well as patients with complex ocular disease. She has extensive experience with surgical cases including refractive surgery, cataract surgery and glaucoma laser treatments. Dr. Patel treats and manages various ocular diseases including corneal dystrophies, cataracts, inflammatory eye diseases, glaucoma and retinal diseases. She also manages patients with systemic conditions that can lead to eye pathology such as diabetes and hypertension. Dr. Patel attended the University of Georgia where she received her Bachelors of Science in Biology and Psychology. She then moved to Chicago, Illinois where she graduated with honors from the Illinois College of Optometry. While attending the Illinois College of Optometry she was a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa Honor Society. After graduation, Dr. Patel moved back to Atlanta to pursue further training and completed her residency in ocular disease and refractive surgery. Dr. Patel has completed her board certification requirements in the treatment and management of ocular disease.
