You might choose dumbbells over a barbell because they:

• Let each arm work on its own. That helps fix strength gaps.
• Allow a deeper range of motion. Your chest and shoulders move more naturally.
• Reduce shoulder stress. Your wrists and elbows can settle into a comfortable position.
• Improve control and stability. You have to manage the weight the whole time.
• Translate better to everyday strength and sports movement.
