This gratitude season, please think of STC when making your end -of-year donations. We provide mental health services and recovery support across South LA and Orange County, always seeking to remove barriers to care for the folks who need it most.

Over the last year we expanded services into 10 Title 1 schools, expanded our partnerships with local school districts and community based organizations, and we expanded our programming offerings at Kairos House -- our in-patient transitional housing facility for folks with HIV/AIDS.

Today, on World AIDS Day, we stand in solidarity.

We remember those we’ve lost to AIDS-related illnesses, and we honor the resilience of the millions living with HIV worldwide.

This day is also a vital reminder of the profound link between HIV and mental health. The journey is deeply intertwined with emotional and psychological well-being, from prevention and testing to diagnosis, treatment, and living long-term.

People living with HIV may face:
• Anxiety, depression, and trauma
• The weight of stigma and isolation
• Unique stressors related to health management

And we know that mental health challenges can also impact a person's ability to access and adhere to care. That's why we offer 15 free counseling sessions to those living with HIV/AIDS.

At STC, we want to be clear:
Your mental health matters, regardless of status. You deserve support, free from judgment and shame.

Today, on Transgender Day of Remembrance, we pause to honor the lives of transgender individuals lost to anti-transgender violence this past year.

This day is a solemn reminder of the pervasive discrimination and danger that the trans community, particularly trans women of color, continues to face. It is not just a statistic; each number represents a human being with dreams, loved ones, and a life that was tragically cut short by bigotry.

We say their names. We hold their memories in our hearts. And we reaffirm our commitment to creating a world where every person can live their truth openly, safely, and without fear.

How to be an ally today and every day:

Listen to and center trans voices.
Educate yourself and others on the issues facing the trans community.
Speak up against transphobic language and actions.
Support trans-led organizations and initiatives.

Let’s move beyond remembrance and into action. Together, we can build a future where this day of mourning is no longer necessary.

If your teen has been struggling with substance use, we can help! We have a twice weekly meeting for teens ages 13 to 17. The group meets Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7 to 8pm. Cost is $15 per session with 10 sessions total needed to get a certificate.

This week in our LifeArt Skills group, we facilitated an October activity titled “Mindful Pumpkin Carving”. We explained that the activity was not just about carving a pumpkin but about using the process as a mindfulness exercise. Participants were encouraged to check in with their thoughts and emotions, reflecting on a moment of happiness or sadness and expressing it in their carving. The group was reminded that this activity offered a chance to be present, reduce stress, and carve with intention, turning a creative task into a therapeutic, meditative experience.
