I read Marilynne Robinson’s words as an invitation to pay attention to the world in a way that makes space for mystery. A reminder of how an active shift in perspective can shape the landscape of the heart and imbue the world with new meaning. It reminds me of how being in therapy can open new doors within the psyche, allowing for new parts of the self to be seen and experienced. There’s something miraculous about being witness to this process; I’m continually reminded of the potential all of us have within us to grow and change.

It takes courage to look at oneself, to not look away when things get tough. Psychotherapy is what helps me not look away. Perhaps we all need help with that. I certainly do and I’m sure DW did too. Therapy helps me see, think and feel. And, to me, that is what it means to be alive.

I love this book. A collection of essays written by Anatole Broyard after being diagnosed with prostate cancer. Rather than with defeat and despondence Broyard responded with “intoxication” and wrote about the therapeutic importance of expressing oneself in the face of death. It’s a book I come back to again and again… to find myself reassured of the potency of writing as an antidote to illness and pain.

Psychotherapy with Chantal Wunderlich, MFT

“I offer individual psychodynamic talk-therapy as well as therapeutic writing groups in downtown Santa Barbara, California. For those who are unable to meet with me in person, I provide therapy services on the phone or via Skype.”

“My approach is comprehensive and long-term; my aim is to honor the complexity and experience of each person as I support my clients in a process that leads to lasting and meaningful change. This means helping my clients know themselves more fully, allowing them to move forward in their lives with a greater sense of inner freedom, self-belief, and optimism.”
