It's , and today we recognize the resident physicians who are an integral part of the care team at Cottage Health. This annual day shines a spotlight on residents and fellows and the compassionate, human-centered care they provide to patients every day.

From Pediatrics and Internal Medicine to General Surgery and Diagnostic Radiology, our residents carry forward a tradition that began in 1923, caring for our community while training alongside experienced physician mentors in a culture rooted in teamwork and respect.

Today, we celebrated them and spent a few moments relaxing with our therapy dogs in appreciation for all they do.

To our resident physicians, thank you. We are grateful for you.

We are proud to recognize Criss, a nurse in the Pre/Post-Surgical Unit (PPSU) and recent DAISY Award recipient. She was nominated by a grateful family member who shared the following:

“My wife was scheduled for a biopsy. During the preoperative preparations, Nurse Criss observed that my wife was not acting normally. Demonstrating exceptional clinical intuition, she requested a triage assessment for further evaluation. What followed was a rapid and lifesaving diagnostic sequence that confirmed the presence of a tumor. Thanks to Nurse Criss’ immediate action, my wife received timely treatment, and a follow-up showed a dramatic improvement in the size of the tumor.

Today, my wife is making significant strides toward recovery. This extraordinary outcome was only possible because Nurse Criss did not overlook subtle clinical signs. Her attention to detail and proactive care exemplify the highest standards of nursing practice and patient advocacy. Our family owes Nurse Criss a debt of gratitude we can never fully repay. Her vigilance gave my wife a second chance at life. Please extend our heartfelt thanks and recognize her as the silent hero she is.”

Please join us in congratulating Criss. We are grateful for the dedication, vigilance, and compassion she brings to her patients each day.
