The Violet Solomon Oaklander Foundation is a non-profit corporation created to further the work of Dr. Violet Oaklander, eminent child and adolescent psychotherapist, trainer, and author of two books: 'Windows to Our Children' and 'Hidden Treasure.' In October 2003 approximately 20 of Violet's family members and long-time colleagues met in Santa Barbara to discuss various ways of carrying on Violet's work after she retires.

Peter Mortola and Tzveta Misheva-Aleksova will guide us through six steps to bring play alive in therapy - using puppets and other media.

For our very first VSOF Workshop Series, that bridge is Peter Mortola and Tzveta Misheva-Aleksova.

Peter has trained countless practitioners in Gestalt Play Therapy. Tzveta represents the next generation of VSOF trainers, bringing fresh perspective and dedication.

Violet Oaklander was born April 18, 1927 and died September 21, 2021. This October, we begin something new.

For years, the Violet Solomon Oaklander Foundation has worked to carry forward Violet’s legacy. But this fall, we’re taking a new step - one that connects generations, cultures, and communities through hands-on learning.

On October 4, 2025, we launch the first-ever VSOF Workshop Series.
Our President, Peter Mortola, will team up with board member Tzveta Misheva-Aleksova to lead:
“How to play the Oaklander way: Six steps to help play become real using puppets and other media.”

This is more than a workshop. It’s the start of an ongoing series designed to share Violet’s approach across the world - accessible, practical, and rooted in play.

The 2025 VSOF Conference was incredible! Thank you to the presenters and participants.
In-coming President, Dr. Peter Mortola presented an updated version of the 4 step model, based upon his analysis of Violet's videos from his archive: it's now 6 steps, that he outlined in his presentation. So exciting to know that Violet's work is continuing to expand. ☺️
