Shinrin-yoku, forest bathing, has been shown in research since the 1980’s, to have numerous health benefits. From blood pressure reduction to improved mood, reduced stress hormones to improved immune function and balance, forest bathing promotes overall health and wellbeing.
I believe this is one of the pillars of health, to spend time in nature, and it is commonly found on treatment plans I give to my patients. It is also something I personally value and strive for.
Earth Day is a perfect reminder for all of us to get outside, immerse ourselves in nature, and appreciate the beauty of the natural world. We also must take care of our Earth so she can continue to provide for us.
Happy Earth Day, everyone! ❤️🌎❤️
The Japanese have known for years that spending mindful time in the woods is beneficial for body and soul. Now western doctors – and royals – agree

Burnout has been at the forefront of my mind in recent months, after I created an online course on how to heal from it.
This article spells out the WHO definition of burnout— excessive and prolonged stress in the workplace— and some key features of it—exhaustion, cynicism, and self-blame.
While burnout relating to the work place is certainly real and deserving of a title, this same syndrome can span other aspects of life as well.
For example, I see a lot of postpartum mothers in my practice and many of them are dealing with going back to work, pumping milk several times during their work day, mothering 24/7, keeping up their house, grocery shopping, etc. They have little time for exercise, sleep, and self-care. They are exhausted. Their needs are not getting met, which can easily turn into cynicism. They are struggling to keep up with everything and they blame themselves for it. This is burnout too!
This article discussed some important tips for managing burnout, however it fails to discuss any of the physical attributes of burnout. They talk about burnout solely as a mental-emotional issue that comes from prolonged and excessive stress within the workplace. But, when people are in a state of burnout, their adrenal glands are shot, their immune systems are imbalanced, they aren't digesting/absorbing nutrients efficiently, they aren't processing sugar healthfully, and their nervous systems are out of balance.
Removing some of the stress, encouraging rest, engaging in things that bring you joy are incredibly important, as the article expresses. AND, the organ systems that are suffering and trying to keep up with the stressors need to be supported and healed.
This is how people can truly heal from burnout.
I work with many patients on the journey of healing the adrenal glands and repairing the body from burnout and it is incredible to see how they can rebound and thrive again, despite many of the stressors persisting.
Burnout is common across the globe, and the pandemic has only exacerbated it. In this episode, experts unpack the signs of burnout and how you can gain more control over your work and your life.

In my clinical practice, I have a saying: “Empowered Healing, Compassionate Care.” This means that I meet my patients “where they’re at” on their health journey, providing the professional care they need and deserve, while simultaneously providing tools to directly improve their wellbeing.
Through my years as a naturopathic doctor, I’ve helped countless people who were “running on empty” heal their adrenals and restore their overall health. It’s a passion of mine, and some of the most rewarding work I do. To this end, I’ve developed an online, 8-week program called Combatting Adrenal Fatigue: from Burnout to Burn Bright, which provides a deep dive into the topics of stress, adrenal fatigue, and burnout — while guiding participants through the process of total adrenal restoration.
For anyone experiencing chronic stress, and possibly even burnout, I’m here to help you heal. I’ve experienced burnout before, and trust me when I say that there is a way out and that you CAN feel good again!
If you feel that you’re running on empty, I can help. I’d love to see you take advantage of this new course.
High stress has become the norm for many of us in these wild times — and its impact spreads farther than you think. If you’ve been feeling fatigued, stressed, or burnt out, I’m here to get you back on track with my totally virtual, 8-week course designed to give you the deep knowledge and tools to restore your body and mind, helping you shine your brightest!
I hope you’ll join me in taking this next step to a more resilient, happy, and energetic YOU.
Today marks an awesome day. I wrapped up my first ever online course on immunity and stress management — and I’m so grateful for the 55 people who joined me on this exciting journey! The level of engagement and learning within the group was incredible. Thank you!
I’m happy to share that I’ll be continuing my virtual learning format for full-body stress healing through an 8-week online program called Combatting Adrenal Fatigue: from Burnout to Burn Bright. It will be packed with modules, tutorials, live Q&A sessions, treatment strategies, and a community of students working through similar journeys to get back on track to their boldest, brightest selves.

When you’re stressed, your immune system shuts down, your adrenals are working hard, your blood sugar is all over the place, and your digestion is suppressed. Eventually, with chronic stress, the adrenal glands can become fatigued. While these effects are ALWAYS bad, they are ESPECIALLY bad during a pandemic.
We need our immune systems to be robust. We need to be digesting well so that we are absorbing the nutrients from our diet and getting rid of waste. We need our blood sugar to be balanced because high sugar puts us at an increased risk of infection and causes inflammation. We need our adrenal glands to be working well because this is how we can survive stress in the first place.
When I talk about “stress management,” I don’t just mean “sit and meditate” (although, that can be a powerful tool). In my upcoming live series, I will educate you about the stress response and tell you a wonderful little SECRET about stress’s effect on the body that most people don’t know! I will give you lifestyle hacks and tools to help you change the way your body responds during stress, fight infections that come your way, take care of your body, and THRIVE in your life.
Join me from January 27-29 in my FREE live course for optimizing your immunity through stress management. You have nothing to lose — and your health to gain.
